  2. 2. IntroductionIntroduction  What is Solid Waste? “ Solid waste can be regarded as refuse or waste from any kind of source”. But any refuse or waste can be economic resource to others.  Bacground of the Problem: Solid Waste has been identified as one of the key global problems today that is at the root cause of; • disease • food insecurity • malnutrition. shobuj_ctg09@hotmail.com 2

Objective and Duration  Starting up a decentralized solid waste management (SWM)  Improving the local environment and offering continuous development  After an initial period of 24 months, the project will be handed over to the local government  Some of the most important development goals highlighted Plan (2015-17) are as follows:  Collection and disposal of existing waste littered throughout the project area  Reduction of poverty by involving waste managment process  Public participation  Collection and transportation of solid waste  More support gathered in tree growing activities  People have learned proper disposal of solid waste and initiated to clean up their surroundings.

  6. 6. Methodology Traditional Project Management Approach I would like to use a traditional approach, unfolding in the following sequence. Subtasks are identified in the table below.  Project initiation stage- • initial data collection • proposal • refinement of proposal • contract negotiation • final agreements and contract.  Project planning or design stage- • Preparation of all the planning and process documents described in this proposal, • confirmation and completion of initial project design.

  9. 9. Composting  It is a process in which organic matter of solid waste is decomposed and converted to humus and mineral compounds.  Three methods of composting: (a) Composting by trenching (b) Open windrow composting (c) Mechanical composting
