Research proposal to Japan government for Solid Waste Management
Preparing Research Proposal to Japan

Dr. Engr. Muzzammel Hoque
What is Solid Waste?
“ Solid waste can be regarded as refuse or waste from any kind
of source”. But any refuse or waste can be economic
resource to others.
Bacground of the Problem:
Solid Waste has been identified as one of the key global
problems today that is at the root cause of;
• food insecurity
Objective and Duration
Starting up a decentralized solid waste management (SWM)
Improving the local environment and offering continuous development
After an initial period of 24 months, the project will be handed over to
the local government
Some of the most important development goals highlighted Plan
(2015-17) are as follows:
Collection and disposal of existing waste littered throughout the
Reduction of poverty by involving waste managment process
Collection and transportation of solid waste
More support gathered in tree growing activities
People have learned proper disposal of solid waste and initiated to
clean up their surroundings.
• Climate change mitigation
• Waste generation and composition
• Waste management in less developed prevention or
waste minimization reuse
• Materials recycling and composting
• Incinaration with energy recovery
• Improve relationship among Bangladesh and Japan
• The composition and quantities of waste
• The availability of some disposal options
• The demand for products derived from waste
• Healthy environmrnt
• Sustainable Waste Management System
Traditional Project Management Approach
I would like to use a traditional approach, unfolding in the following
sequence. Subtasks are identified in the table below.
Project initiation stage-
• initial data collection
• refinement of proposal
• contract negotiation
• final agreements and contract.
Project planning or design stage-
• Preparation of all the planning and process documents
described in this proposal,
• confirmation and completion of initial project design.
• Process Management
• Quality Control
• Handling Restraints
• Operational Challenges
Project monitoring and controlling systems-
• Data collection
• Process monitoring
• Revision and process-oriented reporting as
described in this proposal.
Project completion stage
Discussion with key personnel,
Follow up as needed.
Project execution or production stage-
Project process and operation
It is a process in which organic matter of solid waste is
decomposed and converted to humus and mineral
Three methods of composting:
(a) Composting by trenching
(b) Open windrow composting
(c) Mechanical composting
Incineration of waste materials converts the waste into ash, flue
gas, and heat.
A landfill site is a site for the disposal of waste materials by burial and
is the oldest form of waste treatment.
Heating of the solid waste at very high temp. in absence of air.
Recycling is processing used materials into new products.
Here is the budget classification of the entire project spread over
the 2 year period.
Facility Construction $2,287.00
Portable Machinery $1,020.00
Waste Disposal Facility $8,000.00
