Shear Force And Bending Moment Diagram For Frames

 1. 1. Module 1 : Shear and Moment Diagrams for a Frame Dr Yan Zhuge CIV E3011 Structural Analysis
 2. 2. Introduction - Frames

Frames are often used in buildings and are composed of beams and columns that are either pin or fixed connected.

Frame members are subjected to axial, shear and moment loadings.

The strength of rigid joint connection frame is derived from the moment interactions between the beams and the columns at the joints.

 3. 3. Simple Frames pitched flat
 4. 4. Procedure for analysis

Determine the reactions at the frame supports.

Find the axial force, shear force and moment acting at the ends of each member.

Draw shear force and moment diagrams for each member.

 5. 5. Example 2 - Frame Draw the shear and moment diagrams for the frame. Assume A is a pin, and C is a roller.
 6. 6. Example 3 – Frame Draw the shear and moment diagrams for the frame. Assume A is a pin, C is a roller and B is a fixed joint.
