INTRODUCTION <ul><li>A computer is an electronic machine, operating under the control of instructions stored in its own memory </li></ul><ul><li>The first automatic electronic digital computer was prepared in America </li></ul><ul><li>The modern computer using stored-program digital processors were introduced in the 1950s </li></ul>

Literature Review <ul><li>During the late 1970s and early 1980s computers became more affordable to schools, permitting a rapid decrease in student-to-computer ratios </li></ul><ul><li>Towards the end of the 1980s and into the 1990s while the computer literacy rationale remained(Hanna fin & Savenye, 1993s; Hussein, 1996s) </li></ul>

Concept Of Computer Literacy In Pakistan <ul><li>Pakistan is a Third-World country with limited resources, but in spite of that, there are many fields in which computer is used </li></ul><ul><li>During the late ten years a significant number of Pakistani libraries have also been enjoying the benefits of this technology </li></ul><ul><li>With the inception of computer technology in libraries new terms like “Information Technology” have become common </li></ul>
  17. 19. Development Of Computer literacy in Pakistan <ul><li>The new information technology/computer is intrinsic to national development and has an unavoidable influence on national culture. It is regarded as a powerful set of new media of potential benefit to teaching and learning </li></ul><ul><li>In 1993s, a project titled “Computer Literacy” in Pakistan , s schools (CLIPS) was launched with the assistance of IBM, SEMEA, Karachi. IBM is providing 300 computers, 150 printers to 150 schools throughout the country free of cost </li></ul>

Computer literacy at private level <ul><li>Computer helps to increase the activity during study and give comfort to the learner. </li></ul><ul><li>In private schools the use of computers are very common and their focus on the learning through the use of technology. </li></ul><ul><li>They teach the learner through the use of Microsoft office and multimedia. </li></ul>

Computer literacy at public leve l <ul><li>Public institutes fail to provide the qualified teachers and quality of education </li></ul><ul><li>Due to lack of budget and facilities they are not working up to the mark and not fulfilling the basic requirements of education </li></ul><ul><li>Some public institutes have computers but not utilize. </li></ul>

Effects of computer literacy <ul><li>Students also use computers for accessing information, as well as for writing stories and research paper </li></ul><ul><li>Students use a variety of learning programs or reinforce basic skills in math language, reading and other subjects </li></ul><ul><li>Students are using computers to create multimedia presentations </li></ul><ul><li>Using computers in the classroom positively affects students’ sense of learning </li></ul>
