  2. 2. How It Started…A young engineer is wanting to make adifference in the lives of underprivilegedsections in his own area. He was disturbed inhis young age by the issues related withinequalities and poverty. The Tsunami inTamilnadu led to further introspection about theneed to initiate change and thus gave up asuccessful career to pursue development work.He motivated other young professionals also inhis mission.

Contd. SSNM trust, their brainchild, thus came in toexistence in 2008 under registration no 2487/07.Vision:To develop a just, participatory and peaceful societybased on strong democratic values.Mission:Undertaking development initiatives to positivelyimpact the lives and improve quality of marginalisedand excluded sections of the society.

Strategy and Approaches Promoting village institutions. Bottom up planning process. We believe in doing ourselves. Using Participatory community based managementapproach. Develop liaison and Linkages withGovernment/donor/PRIs. Capacity building of community and Practitioners. Enable development by (a) helping people buildassets that benefit them directly; (b) promoting theself-reliance of poor people and communities.

The groups areactively spreading social message and wereactively involved in local election mainlyraising awareness on choosing rightcandidate for the job.Formation of women’s saving group is inprocess.Regular training of youth and their capacitybuildingMobile school for marginalised Children

Achievements…. A team of 50 volunteers have been working on thede-addiction program A team of 20 youth volunteers have been undergonethe Mahadalit Vikas Mitra training of trainers A team of 35 recently graduated volunteers is doing aproject on micro-finance they are involved in forminggroups of women and youth this project has recentlybegan.

Contd… In Aurangabad a team 70 youth volunteers isinvolved in collecting data on the issues of childprotection as well as running mobile school andschool support classes in 5 panchayats. 8 mobile school are operational run by youthvolunteers 105 children were enrolled in school in theacademic year.
