  3. 3. 2006 • Marked our beginning with an opinion piece - The first article under the name of Institute for Competitiveness was published by Dr. Amit Kapoor in Economic Times. 2009 • Incorporation - Institute for Competitiveness was incorporated in 2009 and is part of global network of the Institute for Strategy & Competitiveness at Harvard Business School, USA • State Competitiveness Report - The report, which is an annual publication maps the competitiveness & performance of states in India. 2012 • Porter Prize - An annual (first hosted in 2012) event of Institute for Competitiveness which recognizes the strategic acumen of corporates in India. • States Competitiveness Awards - Launch of awards in associated with MINT to celebrate the states, cities and enterprises that have helped in enhancing the competitiveness across the nation. • Hall of Fame- Prof. Kapoor was inducted into the Competitiveness Hall of Fame which is administered by Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School, USA. 2014 • India Council on Competitiveness was formed A partnership was developed with Council on Competitiveness to promote sustainable economic growth and develop global competitiveness policies and strategies. 2016 • Joined hands with Social Progress Imperative - to form Social Progress India to complement the economic assessment with social assessment by adopting the Social Progress Index framework. • Future of States – The aim of the initiative is to help governments, corporations, the media & the broader civil society to come to terms with the changes that will benefit India in terms of leveraging its innovation capability. EVENTS PORTER PRIZE SHARED VALUE SUMMIT THINKERS SANDBOX The annual Shared Value Summit aims at encouraging businesses to adopt the practice of shared value by imbibing the spirit of inclusivity in their business models. The event aims at recognizing the strategic acumen of corporates in India. The central idea of the Porter Prize is to propel companies to compete on the basis of value creation, innovation and strategy. India’s National Competitiveness Forum is a flagship event of India Council on Competitiveness, which aims to drive Indian productivity, competitiveness and leadership in the world market via its activities. This program examines programmatic, organizational, and policy-related decisions required for health care delivery systems in resource-constrained settings. This program focuses on understanding the theories and frameworks that provide a foundation for understanding the role and significance of business model – conceptualization, typologies and innovation. This program involves learning of the tools and techniques for developing game-changing organizations, which can identify the industry shifts, spot the emerging trends and become a part of the industry transformations at the right time. The research is done on the basis of economic and social indicators at a national and subnational level to take stock of the present state of Indian Innovation. The calculated Index is a tool for the policymakers to track the innovation activity in the states. Driven by enduring belief that states must envision a future before realising it. ABOUTUS Collaboration with Department of /industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, GOI Involves analysing the presence, size, and performance of clusters across locations. Based on definitions that identify cluster categories as groups of industries that empirically tend to be connected through localized spill-overs and linkages. Assess cluster’s role in the overall development of the region; identify new sectors for cluster development. Provide recommendations for strengthening cluster based development in India. I N C O L L A B O R AT I O N W I T H Aimed at analysing the presence of clusters across regions within India. Provide a way to understand the interplay between location, value chains, and regional specialization patterns. KEY FOCUS CLUSTERSINSELECTEDSTATES RESEARCH This includes collection of data that will form the basis of cluster analysis; analyzing the performance of existing clusters; identifying related clusters. TOOL The interactive tool will provide a broader data infrastructure that covers cluster presence and performance, as well as several types of data about regional economic performance, business environment quality, and regional characteristics. POLICY INPUTS This would include in-depth analysis of region’s performance that will help in understanding the challenges of existing clusters and identifying new sectors for cluster development.   21. 21. HOSTING PROFESSOR MICHAEL E. PORTER The Institute for Competitiveness hosted Professor Michael E. Porter during his visit to India in 2017 after a gap of 14 years. Leveraging on his visit, the institute joined hands with NITI Aayog to organize the third lecture in the high-powered ‘NITI Lectures: Transforming India’ series by Professor Porter on the theme – Competitiveness of Nations and States: New Insights. The lecture was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by top policy makers including all members of the Cabinet. Professor Porter spoke on India’s improvement in competitiveness over the years and the role of social progress and shared value in the developmental process. Professor Porter also delivered keynotes at the Porter Prize and Shared Value Summit held in Mumbai and Delhi respectively.
