Mold
 Mold is a Filamentous Fungi
 It grows on food & moist place
 Easily identified by it’s fuzzy & cottony
appearance
 Normally it’s WHITE but topical mold can be
DARK or SMOKEY
Mold grow on orange & tomato
Mold grow on dry place

Mold Reproduction:
 Most of Molds reproduce by forming spores
 That disperse into the air.
 Afterwards they Search food and moisture

Mold Reproduction:
 Asexual Spores:
 The asexual spores are produced
in large number
 They are readily spread in the air
 Four types of asexual spores:
a). Conidia
b). Sporangiospores
c). Anthrospores
d). Chlomydospores
Mold Reproduction:
 Sexual Spores:
 The molds can produce sexual spores which
 are classified into:
3 types of sexual spores:
a). Omycetes
b). Zygomycetes
c). Ascomycetes
Example of Molds:
Mucor
Rhizopus
Temperature requirement:
Mold grow under mesophilic temperature
25-30°C. (Ex: Aspergillus sp.
Few molds can begin growing at
temperatures of 4 °C (39 °F) or below.
Contribution of mold
 Koji are used to ferment a soybean and
wheat mixture
 Fusarium venenatum – quorn
 Geotrichum candidum – cheese
 Neurospora sitophila– income
 Penicillium spp. – various cheeses
including Brie and Blue cheese
 Rhizomucor miehei – microbial rennet for
making vegetarian and other cheeses
 TempehRhizopus oryzae–precursor for
making Chinese rice wine
Quorn, cheese, income, Chinese rice wine

  • 4. Mold  Mold is a Filamentous Fungi  It grows on food & moist place  Easily identified by it’s fuzzy & cottony appearance  Normally it’s WHITE but topical mold can be DARK or SMOKEY

  • 9. Mold Reproduction:  Most of Molds reproduce by forming spores  That disperse into the air.  Afterwards they Search food and moisture
  • 11. Mold Reproduction:  Asexual Spores:  The asexual spores are produced in large number  They are readily spread in the air  Four types of asexual spores: a). Conidia b). Sporangiospores c). Anthrospores d). Chlomydospores
  • 12. Mold Reproduction:  Sexual Spores:  The molds can produce sexual spores which  are classified into: 3 types of sexual spores: a). Omycetes b). Zygomycetes c). Ascomycetes Example of Molds: Mucor Rhizopus
  • 13. Temperature requirement: Mold grow under mesophilic temperature 25-30°C. (Ex: Aspergillus sp. Few molds can begin growing at temperatures of 4 °C (39 °F) or below.
  • 14. Contribution of mold  Koji are used to ferment a soybean and wheat mixture  Fusarium venenatum – quorn  Geotrichum candidum – cheese  Neurospora sitophila– income  Penicillium spp. – various cheeses including Brie and Blue cheese  Rhizomucor miehei – microbial rennet for making vegetarian and other cheeses  TempehRhizopus oryzae–precursor for making Chinese rice wine
