I would be speaking about a few singledrugs, which are used by a special group ofpeople in our country ; who don’t have abarrier of either caste or community.The“ HOMEMAKERS” 3
Among these are a few single drugs which are useful to her right from the kitchen.• Madar—The calatropis leaves.• A’am-The raw mango fruit.• Kamoon-The cummium seeds.• Rumanun-The pomogranate fruit.• Tamar hindhi-The tamarind pulp• Henna- The mehandi leaves. 4

The plant is been worshiped by many of the communities in INDIA. As per Tibb-e-Unani the temperament of this plant is Garm-o-Khushk III Degree. One classical simple use of this plant was the using of theleaves in the condition of Wajawul mufasil ( Rheumatoidarthritis), the pain in the joints & especially in the “Knee”joints. 7
The method of use : The leaves are taken, cleaned well . On the(posterior aspect )the lower ;soft side of the leaf is applied with Roghan-e-erand (castor oil) and this is heated on a pan till it becomes warm . These leaves are then tied on the knee joint . This procedure is usually preferred before sleep. In the morning Nutool of Neemgarm Paani ( pouring of Luke warm water ) is done in the morning . This is done for about 1-2 weeks. 8

The raw mangoes andflowers have thetemperament of ;Sard-o-tar (Cold and Wet ).As of this temperament itsSharbath (juice) is verybeneficial in Waja-ul-Heiz(Dysmenorrhoea) . 10
Method of preparation of the sharbath : (Juice) Ingrediants: •A’am Khaam :( Raw mango)-500 gms •Elaichi : (Cardamom) –2-3 in number. •Nabaath-e-Sufeed (Sugar) –250 gms . •Louz shreen (almond)—100 gms •Arkh-e-Gulab (Rose water)-50 mlMethod of preparation:The raw mangoes are deseeded & boiled, then they are completelydrained form water. These mangoes are now smashed to a finepaste . This paste is added to a pan (dry ) heat it & to this thepowdered cardamom are added & stirred well continuously forabout 10 minutes. To the above mixture sugar is added and stirredwell continuously for about 15 minutes on a low flame …….This 11cooled down & rose water added to.
Dosage:About a teaspoon of the semisolid with a glass ofwater.Taken in the morning & evening.The conditions when one could consume use it :•During the first 3 days of the menstrual cyclewhere there is severe dysmenorrhoea.• Pain from the 11th-16th day of the menstrualcycle.•Pain per abdomen after spicy food .(Especiallynon vegetarian food).•During burning micturation on a travel. 12
The fresh flowers of the mango is of temperament Sard- o-Tar (Cold and dry) & they are very useful in the following remedies .•The flower are crushed & the freshjuice when applied on the burnsdoesnt leave the scald of the burn.•The fresh flower juice is given inZaheer (dysentery) , this stops thewatery stools by its property ofQabis (constipative).•The flowers are crushed andapplied on the eyelids in Ashubechasm (Allergic conjunctives). 13

Use of zeerah in different formsof life:For the babies. •The umbilical cord is tied with a thread soaked in the thick Joshanda ;decoction of the zeerah seeds , this helps in avoiding any kind of infection to the baby from the knot of the umbilical cord . •When the baby is born soon after which there is bath being given to the baby, here the joshanda (decoction) of the zeerah seeds is used for bathing the baby. •The seeds can be boiled in water and they are used in the bathing of the baby , this enables the strengthening of the joints and gives good relaxation to the muscles ;by these the baby enable swift 15 walking .
From the age of 3 months –5yrs • The joshanda of zeerah decoction of the zeerah along with jaggery can be prepared at home and can be given orally to the baby to avoid sue-e-hazam indigestion among the babies. • The same decoction can be used in loose stools & dehydration to balance the fluid loss. 16
During the menarchWhich means when first the girl gets heremenstrual cycle there are number of restriction infood followed by the drinks as of taken by the girl.The diet contains a heavy amount of fats, sugars &carbohydrates which is very had to digest and aspreventive of this when Roghan-e-Zard ghee isused it is better of to fry a few Zeerah cumiumseeds in the ghee and the used to be given , Thishelps as of for the good digestion of the fat beingconsumed in the diet . As the property of Zeerahas per Tibb-e-unani is Kasir-e-riya & dafa-e-nafaq –e-shikam which means Carmative thishelps in the evacuation of the gases from thestomach. 17
Method of preparation of Joshanda of zeerah• Joshanda of zeerah:• Ingrediants :• Zeerah -Cummium Seeds –100gms• Namak-e-taam –Common Salt –25 gms• Water –250 ml• Method of Usage :• Zeerah is fried on the pan until golden brown and finely powdered, this powder is boiled in water along with Namak-e-taam –Common Salt and this liquid is used for the douches. 18
A few simple uses of thepomegranate fruit & flower • The fresh juice of the flowers is very beneficial in Zheer-e-kazib - Dysentry. • The fresh juice of the flowers is very beneficial in stopping the loose stools of Heiza - cholera. • The fresh flowers when chewed bring down the- Waj vul asnaan- tooth ache. • The fresh seeds of the fruit are very beneficial Zaheer-e-atfaal – 20 Infantile Diarrhoea.
Here are a few uses as per unani;• The pulp of the fruit is soaked in water et night & the dissolved water is given in morning during Bukhar (fever )to reduce the increased temperature.• In cases of Qai & matali (nausea & vomiting) the pulp of the fruit is given to avoid it• The seeds are soaked in water & they are finely grinded & used Amraz-e-meda (Gastric disorders)• The pulp of the fruit is soaked in water over night & given in the morning for dysmennorohea (pain during menstruation) . 22
The leaves of henna are commonly called as mehandi and they are used by the girls and the women for the colorful decoration of the hands, especially on special occasions .The effect of this from unani aspect is that it acts as aMubarid which means cooling agent . 24
ROGHAN-E-HENNA-(HAIR OIL)This is a simple preparation which is used forthe (Sira ki khushk ki) scalp seborrhea . Drugs used; • Henna (Mehandi)- 100gms • Arkh-e-gulab / Aab-e-Vard- Rose Water-20ml • Roghan-e-Zaitoon (olive oil)- 500ml 25
Method of preparation;• Grind the fresh leaves of henna in the form of fine paste,• Aab-e-vard / Arkh-e-gulab is added to it or arkh can itself be taken for grinding the henna leaves, This paste is finely squzzed with the help of a fine cloth & the fluid is taken & heated along with roghan-e-zaitoon (olive oil) until the whole water evaporates. This oil is filtered & stored in a well- stoppered glass bottle. 26
The method of usage:• This oil is applied to the scalp with fine massaging at night & washed off in the morning.• This oil gives good relief to the persons who are working out in the sun & prone to sunstroke.• Acts as a very good conditioner for the hair (especially for women) as in summer there is a loss of oil in the hair & & the remain dry .• NOTE- this should not be kept for more than 14-16hrs as it is very cold in its’ effect & the person may catch alignments like running nose ,nasal obstruction ,etc/- 27
These were a few single uses and simple formulation from the literature of Tibb-e-unani. The formulations are made easy for the home maker to use it , in a simple form so as to have the primary care from the kitchen. These formulations have been is use for a long time by the “HOME MAKERS” but they were un noticed may be due to ignorance or taking it easy ---Like there is a saying “ghar ki mughi daal baraber” which means the wealth we have is useless but they forget that “daal” has more medicinal values than murghi. 28
