OPERATIONAL DEFINITION• LITERATURE: Literature is pieces of writing that are valued as works of art, especially novels, plays and poems (in contrast to technical books and newspapers, magazines, etc.)• ESL: ESL is English as a Second Language.• Paraphrastic approach: Paraphrastic approach deals with the surface meaning of the text. Teachers whose using this approach may paraphrase or re-word the story in similar language or translating it into other languages.
