1. What is the P-value for the z test for testing H0 : ? = 129 against the two-sided alternative?
Use Table A and give your answer to 3 decimal places.
2. . Explain why the test is significant at the 10% level.
A. Because the two-sided P-value is smaller than 0.1.
B. Because the one-sided P-value is smaller than 0.1.
C. Because the population mean falls outside the 90% confidence interval.
D. Because the hypothesized mean falls outside the 90% confidence interval.
Solution
1)test static=xbar-/(/n)
=128
pvalue=2(1-(z0))
2)
A. Because the two-sided P-value is smaller than 0.1..

Guiding managers in analyzing organizations
1. 1. What steps would you suggest that could guide managers in integrating and applying the
conceptual frames we've studied thus far? The response should represent a first attempt at
designing an original and effective process for analysis of organizations. You may want to create
a visual that would accompany your narrative.
2. Using the Hedgehog circles described in Collins' excerpt define a best process for integrating
conceptual tools for sense-making in organizations. You should feel free to synthesize your
original process with the new understandings from Collins as a step in defining the best process.
3. How would the use of cultural, economic and political turnings enhance your understanding of
how global turnings are impacting your ability to make sense of organizations in which you
work, serve, and take an interest? Provide details and support for your position.
Solution
1. The steps that a manager should take while designing a process for analysis of organizations
are: (a) The managers should look at the mission of the organization. In other words, the
objective of the organization should be determined properly. (b) After determining the objective
or the mission, the managers should assess whether the organization has the necessary resources
in terms of physical resources and intellectual resources to achieve the mission. (c) Lastly the
managers should see to it that tht organization is legitimate in the environment in which it
operates.
2. As per the hedgehog circle, an organization is more likely to achieve success, by focussing on
one thing and doing it well, rather than focussing on many things and not being able to do them
well. For finding the one thing that it should focus on, the organizations should - (a) identify
what the organizaton and its employees are passionate about (b) next step is to find out what it
can do the best when compared to other organizations (c) Lastly, there has to be financial
feasability and viability i.e. the focus area should generate healthy toplines and bottomlines for
the organization.
3. An organization's market is the entire world, in today's world of globalization. So the
cultural, economic and political turnings affect organizations and our understanding of it.
I work for a company called Suzlon, in its accounting department. It makes wind turbines. The
recent global and political emphasis on global warming, use of clean energy and reducing the use
of fossil fuels have placed a growing interest on the use of cleaner and greener sources of energy
like solar power, wind power etc.
This political and global importance placed on the product being manufactured by my company,
has helped me understand and appreciate my company, its policy, mission and values more.
