1. 1. Analysis of Jigsaw teaser trailer Storyboard analysis http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v =feAiRP-85J0
 2. 2. Shot 1

The shot opens with a fade up of a girl walking down an alley way. It is dimly lit and you can tell from this that it is in the evening/dusk.

The girl appears from the right hand side to the left.

The music also fades up and fits in with the opening and the pace of the shot.

 3. 3. Shot 2

It then cuts to the opposite side of the alley way and the girl is walking towards the camera.

There is then a flask transition and this opens the next shot.

The same music continues.

 4. 4. Shot 3

There is then the first computer generated shot of text which appears after the flash.

Showing the name of the producer in a very clear text.

 5. 5. Shot 4

There is then a shot of the girl walking from right to left towards a gate.

The music remains the same and the light is the same as the previous shots.

 6. 6. Shot 5

You are then looking down towards the gate and she pulls the latch up on the gate and you see her walk though and close the gate.

Again the music reamains the same.

 7. 7. Shot 6

There is then a long shot where you can see the whole of the girls body as she turns and walks towards the camera.

The music remains the same.

 8. 8. Shot 7

There is then another long shot where the and the girl walks from left to right.

The effect used around the edge of the shot it gives the effect that someone is watching the girl, but she is unaware of it.

 9. 9. Shot 8

We are then introduced to the person from the hedges.

The music carries on but there are some shot effects that match the jump cuts of the follower.

The shots are in black and white which shows the contrast between the two characters and makes him look darker.

There is a flash that transits the jump.

 10. 10. Shot 9

The shot then jumps to further along and the man is closer to the camera.

Accompanied by another sound of a shot.

Again there is another flash between the shots.

 11. 11. Shot 10

The camera then jumps for the second time and the man is closer to the camera.

Accompanied by another gun shot sound affect.

 12. 12. Shot 11

There is then another long shot but this time the girl is walking away from the camera.

The music has gotten slightly faster.

 13. 13. Shot 12

We then jump to the top of the walk way and the girl walks through the archway and the girl walks past us.

Again the music is faster.

 14. 14. Shot 13

There is then a flash and we see another title.

The music remains the same.

 15. 15. Shot 14

The girl is then walking from right to left across the screen.

And we still get the impression that someone is following her.

 16. 16. Shot 15

She then turns round and it is her first acknowledgement of the fact that she is being followed.

She then continues walking.

 17. 17. Shot 16

We then see the man following her again.

 18. 18. Shot 17

We then see both of them in the same shot and we can tell that he is getting closer.

The music then fades out and there is another bang.

 19. 19. Shot 18

There is another flash and then a quote from a review of the film.

This will encourage the viewer that it is a good film and will make the viewer want to go and see it.

There is then a gun shot that accompanies the flash.

 20. 20. Shot 19

The atmosphere of the trailer then changes.

The shots are darker and there is no longer music on it and instead the sound effect of a heart beat which adds to the panic and the tension.

We fade up to this shot and fade down to the next.

 21. 21. Shot 20

The shot changes to the top of the slope and the girl is running towards the camera.

The heartbeat continues and the tension builds.

The shot fades in and fades out to the next this moves it along quicker and adds to the panic as he draws closer quicker.

 22. 22. Shot 21

You then see the man running after her down the same route.

It is darker now and the heartbeat continues.

It fades up to this shot and fades down to the next.

 23. 23. Shot 22

The girl then runs towards the camera and looks around, you can tell from this that she cannot go further and it reaches a climax.

It is darker in these shots and this adds to the atmosphere and the tension.

 24. 24. Shot 23

We then get another review and this breaks the tension.

In the same plain font as the others and it ties it in well with the rest of the trailer.

Both reviews are by notable magazines and newspapers which may encourage the viewer to go and see the film.

There is a flash as the text appears on the screen and it fits well.

 25. 25. Shot 24

There is then another shot of the girls face and we see that she is panicked and that she has met a dead end.

The climax is reached and the heart beat fades out.

 26. 26. Shot 25

We then see images of missing girl and reward posters.

This tells us that the girl we have just seen is the last in a long line of female kidnappings.

The music for this section of the trailer is a deep rumbling sound that gets higher pitched as it progresses.

During this section of the trailer the shots speed up as it progresses and builds up.

The first shot zooms out revealing a missing poster.

 27. 27. Shot 26

We are then shown images of some of the kidnapped girls. The images are in black and white and the camera has shot the rest of it in colour so it gives these shots an orange glow from the lamp used to light them so it draws your attention into particular images.

Again this particular shot zooms out.

 28. 28. Shot 27

The next few shots are of words picked out that are relevant and striking and catch the attention of the viewer.

The also show what is happening and gives a brief account of a story line without the use of too much footage.

This shot zooms in to the key word.

 29. 29. Shot 28

More shots of newspaper article titles.

This one pans quickly from left to right revealing the newspaper article title.

 30. 30. Shot 29

A missing girl poster but it is not of the girl we saw in the opening sequence.

This shot zooms in on the key word, ‘missing person’.

 31. 31. Shot 30

The camera speeds up at this points and this is a more flowing shot moving it along quicker.

This shot pans from the top left to the bottom right showing the word ‘slaying’.

 32. 32. Shot 31

We have then zoomed out and move across to reveal all the newspaper stories and missing girl posters, to show the amount of missing people.

This adds to the tension of the trailer.

The transit to the next shot is of the same gun sound heard at the beginning of the trailer, this allows two pieces of music to be cut together and they fit in to the trailer.

 33. 33. Shot 32

We then move to another missing poster but it is on what looks like a police notice board.

This poster is of the girl we saws in the opening sequence, this ties it together with the other missing posters and we find from this that she has been missing.

 34. 34. Shot 33

It then goes to a jump cut and turns to negative.

And there is a gun shot as it changes to negative. Adding to the effect of the transition, making it more dramatic and captures your attention.

It then blacks out from this shot.

 35. 35. Shot 34

There is then a beam of light that is moving towards the camera and the and the title of the film ‘Jigsaw’

This title could bring up many possible story lines and makes you think

 36. 36. Shot 35

The tag line the appears

 37. 37. Shot 36

And coming soon, not giving a date as it is a teaser trailer, fitting with the convention.

 38. 38. What I think works well within our trailer

I think that the music and sound effects used in the trailer all fit in well with the genre and fit in with where they have been put in the trailer. The music gives a good indication of the genre of the film and opens the trailer well, the music builds with the tension, and sound effects are used to add to moments of tension.

I think that all the shots are relevant and add to the story shown by the trailer and none of the shots drag too much or do not add to the story.

I think the title of the film works well with the story and the way it has been shown in the trailer with the light behind it. It is very effective as it draws the attention and it also fits in with the genre of the film.

I think that the effects used on some of the pieces of film work well, for example when there is a long shot of the girl walking through the grave yard (slide 8) there is an effect around the edge of the shot where it is slightly blurred, this gives the impression that we are seeing it through some ones eyes, and it gives the impression that she is being watched and followed but you don’t actually see anybody yet.

Also when the stalker appears he is in black and white which makes him appear darker and you can tell immediately that this is the bad guy of the film.

 39. 39. Things I think could have been added or changed.

I think that in the opening sequence the shots of the stalker are too long and I think that just a flash of the stalker would have been more effective as it leaves more mystery about the person and there could have been a change in the music rather than an effect, to make the stalker appear darker and to build tension and panic.

I also think that more transitions and effects could have been used between the shots and as the atmosphere changes there could have been more transitions to add to the pace.

The trailer does not contain any of the cast names which could have been included as the familiar names could have made the viewer want to come and see the film.
