Post World War II United States functions much differently than present day. In the 1950s society was returning from war, which was comprised of rationing and conservative living; they quickly rebounded into lifestyles based on consumption. Post war vacationing gained popularity because it was a way to enjoy your country and your family. With interstate highway expansion, cheap gas, and car ownership, families were able to go more places via road trips and seeing America was considered a national duty. Therefore vacationing style is a crucial way to understand the Baby Boomer generation; juxtaposing those trends with Generation Y generates a narrative of modern and future trends.
