Persephone and Hades The sadist character in this story is Hades. He kidnaps Persephone, daughter of Demeter, because he falls in love with her. He traps her in the Underworld with him, and she is only allowed to visit her mother a few months out of the year. He does not care that Persephone is miserable with him. Because of Hades’ cruelty and the fact that he does not care about the pain he inflicts on Persephone, is considered the sadist of the story.
