A Study on the Benefits of Retrofitting a Shop, a Hotel, a School and
          a Hospital according to the Passive House Standard


                                 General Current Situation
The general current performance of shops, hotels, schools and hospitals in Greece with respect to their
energy performances can only be described as poor. This is something that could be said for the vast
majority of shops, hotels, schools and hospitals within Europe. There is however methods that can be
applied to any type of building that could drastically improve its energy efficiency and therefore the on
going yearly running costs for heating and cooling.

                                               Method
The method that we apply at “Plus Energy LAB” is that of the Passive House standard
(www.passivhaus.de). This standard is recognized internationally as being the highest standard that can
be applied to any building being constructed or renovated. The Passive House standard is solely
concerned with the economic benefits of energy conservation. That is, what is the capital cost of the
energy conservation method and how long will it take before the building owners get this capital cost
repaid.
Here are the comparative tables with the existing consumption for shops, hotels, schools and hospitals
and the consumption after applying the Passive House Standard.
