  2. 2. Important Facts. <ul><li>Florida is called the Sunshine State because it has many sunny days. </li></ul><ul><li>It became the 27 th State on March 3 rd , 1845. </li></ul><ul><li>Florida is one of the leading tourist states in the United States. </li></ul>

Florida’s Climate. <ul><li>The climate of North and Central Florida is humid subtropical. </li></ul><ul><li>There is a defined rainy season from June through September. </li></ul><ul><li>Snow and sleet have been witnessed as early as November and as late as April. </li></ul><ul><li>Easterly winds of the warm waters of the Gulf stream running through the Florida straits keep temperatures moderate across the southern peninsula all year round. </li></ul>

Languages spoken. <ul><li>As of 2000, 76.91% of Florida residents age 5 and older spoke only English. </li></ul><ul><li>16.46% spoke Spanish. </li></ul><ul><li>French based languages were spoken only 1.38% </li></ul><ul><li>French was spoken by 0.83%, followed by German at only 0.59% and Italian at 0.44% </li></ul>
  5. 5. State Bird. <ul><li>Florida’s state bird is the Mockingbird. </li></ul><ul><li>They are best known for the habit of some species mimicking the songs of other birds. </li></ul><ul><li>Mockingbirds also have a reputation of being fierce defenders of their nests. </li></ul>

A popular place. <ul><li>This land of swaying palm trees and warm ocean breezes attracts visitors the year around, usually 80 million annually. </li></ul><ul><li>Many vacationers enjoy Walt Disney World Resort. </li></ul><ul><li>A theme park near Orlando. </li></ul><ul><li>Miami Beach, a suburb of Miami, is one of the state’s many famous resort centers. </li></ul>

Most popular Beach. <ul><li>Some of the most popular beaches are near the Gulf Coast. </li></ul><ul><li>The most popular beaches are usually located near major population centers like Clearwater, Sarasota and Naples. </li></ul><ul><li>They attract lots of people all year round and are hot destinations for visitors from around the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Also, Clearwater is one of the best beaches in Florida. </li></ul>

Summary. <ul><li>Florida is called the Sunshine state because it has sunny days, even in the winter. </li></ul><ul><li>Most of Florida’s climate is subtropical. </li></ul><ul><li>Over 70% of Florida languages are spoken only English. </li></ul><ul><li>The state bird is the mockingbird, they are best known for good defenders of their nests. </li></ul><ul><li>Florida attracts many visitors around the world, also many people enjoy going to Walt Disney world and a theme park near Orlando. </li></ul><ul><li>One of the most popular beaches are near the Gulf Coast </li></ul>
  9. 9. If I spent one whole day here… <ul><li>The first thing I would do would be going to my Grandmas new house in Cape Coral. </li></ul><ul><li>Second, I would go to Fort Myers beach for most of the day. </li></ul><ul><li>Then, I would spend the rest of the day shopping. </li></ul>
