Editor's Notes

  1. As of 2005, 57% of all 3-5 year old children attended preschool, but only 47% of all 3-5 year old children below the poverty line attended preschool.
  2. Poverty=an annual income of $16,600 for a family of three.
  3. The average child in a welfare home heard 600 words an hour while children in professional homes heard 2100 words an hour.
  4. Participation in the Kindergarten-Grade 3 had a $3.97 societal return for every $1 invested, and participation in the Extended Intervention Program had a societal return of $8.24 for every $1 invested.
