This is very wasteful expensive for the distributor, because many copies are going to waste, without profit for distributor. There are also environmental issues that need to be considered, as all the printed paper for the unsold magazines is thrown away. However, the people in the retail outlets benefit from this method, as they don’t lose any money. This is why many shops agree to placing various magazines in their shops. It is the traditional way of magazine distribution and known to most people, and will therefore be also used in the future. • Online publishing: A more modern way of magazine distribution is online publishing. It is one of the most successful methods. Readers often have to participate in a subscription model, which can be paid or for free. There are different variations of the online method. A very simple one is reading articles on the website. A different variation of that are e- zines. It looks like a magazine, but it is accessible online, and you can turn the pages via a mouse click. It does not include a subscription scheme, however the articles are less detailed and do not include everything a paying costumer is able to access. Another method is to subscribe to a kindle or iPad version of the magazine, which replaces a physical copy and works like e-books. • Postal subscription: Postal subscription benefit the publisher, because it is a generated sale. No copies go to waste this way. It also benefits the costumer, because it is directly delivered to the front door, so the reader does not have to go to a shop. It is often also cheaper than buying every issue separately, and they often include gifts for subscriptions.• Direct distribution: This is an effective way of distributing, as the magazine goes directly into the customer’s hand. The magazines are for free. Therefore, the publisher needs to include more adverts to insure high profits. The most common directly distributed magazine is the shortlist.• Own magazine: This information helps me to decide which method is the most effective way of distributing my own magazine. I decided to use traditional sale or return distribution combined with postal subscriptions. Most magazine use a combination of distribution method to raise their profit.distribution
