Making disciplesBeing different people. Who are we going to be.Identity, Worship, Community, Mission
This is what we have been teaching though over these last 10 weeksStarts with Who God is, and what he has done.Information, revelation. So what that means for you as a child of God, an adopted sonThat naturally leads through to worshipWe’re thankful for what he has doneBut we worship him for who he is.Taste and see that the Lord is good, aiming for awe and intimacyWorship prepares us for being part of the Christian community Loving one another, being family, working things out.Living authentic real lives, helping one anotherLeads to mission, we’ve been made for thisThis is God’s love in action, spilling out, loving others.
Laying down your life … it costs everything.Jesus, all for Jesus all I am or have or ever hope to be.Believers? Do we believe? Will we?
What and HowThis is the mission of God, we aren’t to do it because we should or we have to.Though you could do it for these reasons. It’s just that these reasons are insufficient. They don’t carry you very far
Who and WhyCreated for glory, created for love, created to embody the Holy Spirit. The love of neighbour was seen as extending only as far as the people of God, Jesus extended ‘neighbour’ to include even hated enemies.
He’s talking to the crowds, primarily the poor. Uncertain existence, largely living hand to mouth
Father loves to reward us … give him some opportunities!
Don’t worry about your selfA life lived following Jesus
Worrying about the future is largely wasted! Most of things people worry about never happen.Worse than that, worry cuts straight across your relationship with God and ultimately destroys faith … because worry is a lack of trust in God, and the opposite of faith.Determine again today that you will give up on worry and choose to trust.
Jesus First [11/11] ‘Making Disciples 2’ Matthew 6: 33 ... seek first his kingdom and hisrighteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
So, What Does‘Making Disciples’Look Like ?- Going Overseas ?- UK Church Plant ?- Local ‘Ministry’ ?- Following Jesus ?- Loving People ?
The Great Commission Matthew 28: 18-20... Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority inheaven and on earth has been given to me.’Therefore go and make disciples of allnations, baptising them in the name of the Fatherand of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teachingthem to obey everything I have commanded you.And surely I am with you always, to the very end ofthe age.
The Greatest Commandments Matthew 22: 36-40Teacher, which is the greatest commandment inthe Law?Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with allyour heart and with all your soul and with all yourmind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour asyourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these twocommandments.
The Sermon on the mount5:1 The Beatitudes … Unexpected blessingsSalt of the earth, a city on a hill, a bright lightFulfilment of the Law, a greater righteousnessDon’t murder, don’t insult others, be reconciledBeware lust, Adultery begins in the eyes & heart
The Sermon on the mountDon’t divorceSpeak simply, Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’Forget revenge, give more than you’re asked forLove enemies, pray for those who persecute youBe perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect
The Sermon on the mount6:4 Give in secret, be rewarded by the Father6:6 Pray in secret, be rewarded by the Father6:18 Fast in secret, be rewarded by the Father6:24 Don’t serve money, store up future rewards6:33 Don’t worry, seek God’s righteous kingdom
Matthew 6: 25-26Therefore I tell you, do not worry about yourlife, what you will eat or drink; or about yourbody, what you will wear. Is not life moreimportant than food, and the body moreimportant than clothes?Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow orreap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenlyFather feeds them. Are you not much morevaluable than they?
Matthew 6: 27-30Who of you by worrying can add a single hour tohis life? And why do you worry about clothes? Seehow the lilies of the field grow. They do not labouror spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in allhis splendour was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of thefield, which is here today and tomorrow is throwninto the fire, will he not much more clothe you, Oyou of little faith?
Matthew 6: 31-34So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’For the pagans run after all these things, and yourheavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and hisrighteousness, and all these things will be givento you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, fortomorrow will worry about itself. Each day hasenough trouble of its own.
