  2. 2. Introduction <ul><li>Uganda Martyrs University is situated on the Uganda Equator line since 1993 and has developed a proud tradition of training students who make a difference in Uganda and the rest of the world today and in the future. </li></ul>

About the university <ul><li>Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) whose main Campus is located at Nkozi 82 kms west of Kampala, the Capital of Uganda, on the Kampala-Masaka road, was started in October 1993 with 84 students and two academic departments, namely the Institute of Ethics and Development Studies and the Faculty of Business Administration and Management . </li></ul>
  4. 4. Mission <ul><li>The University is committed to providing quality education, while at the same time promoting and living by the non-negotiable values of service and respect. The University community is committed to realising the aims and objectives of the University through democratic processes. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Objectives of UMU <ul><li>To provide high quality education which will prepare students for their future fields of occupation and service. </li></ul><ul><li>2. To cultivate and promote its chosen disciplines and specializations within the context of the knowledge of Christian principles by continually revising its academic and outreach programmes. </li></ul><ul><li>3. To encourage the development of individuals of democratic character, virtue, intellect, creativity, self-criticism, wisdom, skill, integrity, acumen, leadership, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance. Our graduates will be encouraged to foster the social, economic, spiritual, and moral development both of the individual and of society. </li></ul><ul><li>To facilitate the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge and research for the betterment of life in Uganda in particular, and for all humankind in general, in a way which will contribute to the promotion of our cultural heritage and environment. </li></ul><ul><li>5.   7. 7. Center for Distance Learning Studies (CDLS) <ul><li>CDLS is a centre that coordinates all activities of faculties with distance learning programmes run by the university. The faculties that have distance programmes are Education, Agriculture, Business Admnistration and management, and the Institute of Ethics and Development Studies. </li></ul><ul><li>You can visit their site </li></ul>

Mission of Distance learning at UMU <ul><li>The mission of Distance Learning at UMU  is to improve the quality of employed personnel through provision of on time, flexible, off-campus and  demand driven education that instills Values, competence, skills and knowledge for a positive transformation . </li></ul>

Objectives of Distance Learning at UMU <ul><li>To create professionals who live and act by non negotiable values of service and respect; </li></ul><ul><li>To produce a critical mass of quality human resource to meet individual, community, national and global needs; </li></ul><ul><li>To link theory and practice in making a professional; </li></ul><ul><li>To provide up-to-date demand driven courses for society transformation; </li></ul><ul><li>To deliver a flexible education for those unable to attend regular university courses; </li></ul><ul><li>To offer an affordable quality education. </li></ul>

What I do <ul><li>In CDLS, I </li></ul><ul><li>Edit, Format and produce learning materials for distance students </li></ul><ul><li>Produce simple multimedia of all learning materials of distance learners </li></ul><ul><li>Train module writers in writing the modules </li></ul><ul><li>Help in administration of all distance programmes run by UMU </li></ul><ul><li>Assist in the administration of distance programmes of the University. </li></ul>

My expectations <ul><li>How to develop an idea into AVLM </li></ul><ul><li>Learning how to record multimedia of the learning materials </li></ul><ul><li>Learning editing of the AVLM </li></ul><ul><li>Learning how to plan & implement the effective use of audio visual learning materials </li></ul><ul><li>How to maintain the AVLM equipment that the university may buy </li></ul><ul><li>Have time to seek for networking in AVLM </li></ul>
  12. 12. My project <ul><li>I intent to use one module of Education and translate it into AVLM. This is because, AVLM is to supplement modules we give to our students for personal study to enhance teaching & learning, retention and for practice purposes. </li></ul>

Conclusion <ul><li>With the skills that will be attained after the course, I hope to produce better quality work AVLM and be beneficial to assist lecturers be present in their modules through the AVLM and the students performance to increase since the AVLM will help in bringing the lecturer close to them as they miss them in real class situation. </li></ul>
