4. 4. Majority of rope haulage System in our Mines..

Slow in Operation

Labour Intensive

Low Capacity.

Inherently hazardous .

 5. 5. Main causes of accident due to rope haulages and their remedial measures:
 6. 6. Cause No.1: Runaway of tubs due to breakage of rope, failure of attachment to rope, failure of coupling, defective couplings, Draw bars etc.

Remedial Measures :

Proper selection of rope and its maintenance.

Approved design of rope capel, couplings, draw bars etc.

Periodical inspection systematic, maintenance of records.

Immediate replacement of worn out and defective pieces.

 7. 7. Cause No-2 : Non-provision or non-functioning of Safety devices required statutory .

Remedial Measures :

Stop blocks, runaway switches, drags, Jazz rail and manholes must be provided as required.

Strong Buffer at the dip end.

Stop block and runaway switch should be intercoupled.

 8. 8. Cause No.3 Traveling along haulage roadways

Remedial Measures

Unauthorised traveling should be strictly prohibited.

Traveling roadways - short and in intake air, alignment not to be changed frequently.

Cause No.7: Poor construction of Curves requiring trammers to hand On to guide them round bends

Remedial Measures: Haulage Curves should be -

Properly designed and constructed

Correct Super elevation

Proper Fixing of Check Rails

 13. 13. Cause No.8 : Coupling and uncoupling of tubs

Remedial Measures:

Tub Buffers with adequate projections (> 10cm)

Tubs not be coupled or uncoupled on an Inclined track.

Use sprags or blocked by other means.

 14. 14. Cause No.9 : Putting or withdrawing sprags, breakage of sprags may cause accident.

Remedial Measures:

Sprags should be made of hard wood or Steel pipes.

A shield should be provided on the sprags to prevent the hand getting into wheel.

 15. 15. Why the Rope Haulages Accidents ?

REASONS:

Standard of installation and maintenance of track is very poor.

Not straight, gradient change abruptly.

No proper drainage of water.

Not correct gauge.

Sleepers quality not good.

Ballasting is not done.

Points and crossings are badly made.

Curves are incorrectly set.

 16. 16. Some Other Remedial Measures..

Runaway tubs - needs engg. Solution

Install power creepers for handling the tubs in bye.

Retarders for holding runaway tubs.

Wheel Lockers for parking.

Development of sensitive brakes on the mine car itself.
