6. 6. This presentation will focus on the five most common:
 7. 7. Internal Repair
 8. 8. Crack Repair
 9. 9. External Repair
 10. 10. Parging
 11. 11. New Foundation Wraps.

NOTE: If you have questions about other methods of waterproofing your home please don’t hesitate to consult our Representatives at the Home Show
12. 12. Crack Repair
13. 13. Crack Repair

An opening, roughly 4 feet wide is excavated(2 feet on either side of the crack).
 14. 14. Dirt is then removed all the way to the footing of the foundation.
 15. 15. The drain tile (if present) will now be opened to determine the condition, repairs are made to tile if needed.
 16. 16. The crack in the wall is sealed with a non - hardening material called ‘bentonite’, this sealed again with a polyethylene cover, with caulking all around the sides.
 17. 17. The next step is to install the waterproofing membrane over the area of the wall that has been sealed. The membrane is fastened with anchors to the wall, strips across the top and sides and sealed once again with caulking.
 18. 18. The drain tile and the bottom of the membrane are then covered with clean drain stone.
 19. 19. The excavated area is then backfilled and cleaned of debris.

Internal Repair
Air Gap
Membrane
Existing Floor
New Concrete
New Drain Tile
Sump Pump
Drainage Stone
20. 20. Internal Repair

This type of repair is done mainly when it is not possible to waterproof from the outside for a variety of reasons. A trench is opened in the floor along the area to be repaired (exposing the footing).
 21. 21. A sump liner is then installed in the lowest point of the basement floor following the slope of the property.
 22. 22. Drain tile, installed along the footing is sloped towards and connected to the sump liner. The drain tile is then covered with drain stone.
 23. 23. The waterproofing membrane is installed from a point just above grade level and continues down and covers the drain tile.
 24. 24. The trench in the floor is then cemented in and a sump pump is installed. Water is then discharged to a designated area outside of the home.

External Repair
25. 25. External Repair

This method of repair is the type that is most beneficial to seal the foundation.
 26. 26. Soil is excavated down to the footing, (drain system can be repaired at this point if it is necessary).
 27. 27. The next step is to cover the drain tile with drainage stone .
 28. 28. Waterproofing membrane is then installed and also covered with drain stone.
 29. 29. The trench is then backfilled and the area is cleaned.

Parging

This is generally what a section of damaged parging looks like.

Parging

To repair this problem we install a metal mesh over the area to be repaired. The mesh screen is fastened to the wall with metal anchors.
 30. 30. Then a mixture of strengthened cement is applied to the wall with the desired texture as a finish.

New Foundation Wraps

Most effective type of protection for a new foundation.
 31. 31. The entire foundation is covered by the waterproofing membrane, from grade level down to the footing of the walls.
 32. 32. This membrane is completely sealed on all exposed sides, protecting the foundation from any water penetration.

Facts About Delta MS
33. 33. Membrane Information

Delta MS is a high-density polyethylene, air gap membrane.
 34. 34. The membrane has rows of dimples so that when it is fastened to your foundation wall water will , with the aid of gravity, travel down the membrane and to the drain tile.
 35. 35. This is the reason for the bottom of the membrane overlapping the drain tile.
 36. 36. The drain tile and the bottom section of the membrane are covered with drain stone, the stone provides further protection for the drain tile and improved drainage for years to follow.

Thank you for choosing AJN Waterproofing Inc.

We are proud to be a leader in the use of waterproofing products and systems in Southwestern Ontario.
