  3. 3. HISTORY OF TAJMAHALTaj was built in the 17th century. Theconstruction of the Taj commenced in 1631and was completed in1653.It was built by the Great Mogul ShahJahan in honor of Mumtaz Mahal, the loveof his life. Taj is Built on the banks ofthe Yamuna River in Agra.
  4. 4. SHAH JAHAN Shah Jahan (January 5, 1592–January 22, 1666) was emperorof the Mughal Empire in SouthAsia from 1628 until 1658. Hewas the fifth Mughal emperorafter Babur, Humayun, Akbar,and Jahangir.
  5. 5. MUMTAZ BEGUM Mumtaz Mahal (6April 1593 – 17 June1631) bornas Arjumand BanuBegum in Agra ,as adaughter of AbdulHasan Asaf Khan andBanu Begum, andwas married at theage of 19, on 10 May1612, to PrinceKhurram, knownas Shah Jahan
  6. 6. THE LOVE STORY OF TAJ It has been called the most beautifultemple in the world, despite the factthat it was built at the cost of muchhuman life. The Taj Mahal is a realmonument of one mans love for awoman. The story is a sad one, toldmany times. But it never hurts to tell itagain.
  7. 7. CONSTRUCTION OF TAJThe Taj Mahal was constructed using materials fromall over Asia. Over 1,000 elephants were used totransport building materials. The translucent whitemarble was brought from Rajasthan, the jasper fromPunjab, jade and crystal from China. A labour forceof 20000 workers was recruited across northernIndia

  9. 9. TRAGEDY OF TAJ Workers were gathered from all over thecountry (India) and centralAsia. The main architect was Isa Khan.Shahjahan cut off the hands ofthe workers after the completion of the Taj soMahal that no one would ever beable to build such a marvelous monumentagain.
  10. 10. OTHER STORY OF TAJ This story has been challenged byProfessor P.N. Oak, author of Taj Mahal:The True Story, who believes that thewhole world has been duped. He claimsthat the Taj Mahal is not Queen MumtazMahals tomb, but an ancient Hindutemple palace of Lord Shiva (then knownas Tejo Mahalaya), worshipped by theRajputs of Agra city.
  11. 11. VISIT TO TAJ The grounds are openfrom 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.weekdays, except forFriday when thecomplex is open forprayers at the mosquebetween 12 p.m. and2 p.m. The complex isopen for night viewingon the day of the fullmoon and two daysbefore and after.
