PERMANENT MAXILLARY LATERAL INCISOR

  1. 1. MAX. LATERAL INCISOR -SMALLER IN DIMENSION THAN MAX. CENTRAL EXCEPT ROOT LENGTH -RELATIVELY NARROWER MESIODISTAL DIMENSION THAN CENTRAL INCISOR VARIATIONS: • PEG-SHAPED LATERAL • MISSING ENTIRELY • LARGE POINTED TUBERCLE AS PART OF CINGULUM • DEEP DEVELOPMENTAL GROOVES • TWISTED ROOTS • DISTORTED CROWNS
  2. 2. LABIAL ASPECT  Crown outline is trapezoidal  Has more curvatures, with rounded incisal ridge and incisal angles  More rounded mesioincisal angle  Contact Areas:  Mesial= incisal 3rd or near the junction of the middle and incisal 3rds  Distal= junction of middle and incisal 3rd or center of the middle 3rd  Distal outline of crown more rounded, more convex labial face  Root is oftern about 1 ½ times the length of the crown  Root tapers evenly from CEJ up to two thirds then curves sharply in a distal direction  Ends in pointed apex
  3. 3. LINGUAL ASPECT • CROWN IS TRAPEZOIDAL • MARGINAL RIDGES ARE MARKED • LINGUOINCISAL RIDGE IS WELL-DEVELOPED AND MORE CONCAVE LINGUAL FOSSA
  4. 4. MESIAL ASPECT • CROWN IS TRIANGULAR • HEAVY DEVELOPMENT OF THE INCISAL RIDGE, THUS IT APPEARS THICKER THAN CENTRAL INCISOR • ROOT APPEARS TAPERED CONE WITH A BLUNTLY ROUNDED APEX • ROOT AXIS LINE BISECTS THE INCISAL RIDGE OF CROWN.
  5. 5. DISTAL ASPECT • CROWN IS TRIANGULAR • WIDTH OF CROWN APPEARS THICKER CEJ CURVES LESS THAN MESIAL • NOT UNCOMMON TO FIND A DEVELOPMENTAL GROOVE EXTENDING ON THE ROOT
  6. 6. INCISAL ASPECT • RESEMBLES CENTRAL OR A SMALL CANINE • CINGULUM AND INCISAL RIDGE MAY BE LARGER THAN CENTRAL • LABIOLINGUAL MEASUREMENT MAYBE GREATER THAN MESIODISTAL DIMENSION • EXHIBITS MORE CONVEXITY LABIALLY OR LINGUALLY THAN MAX. CENTRAL INCISOR • INCISAL RIDGE HAS LINGUAL INCLINATION
  7. 7. END
