Genetic engineering involves directly manipulating an organism's genome using biotechnology techniques such as isolating genes, modifying genes to be transferred between organisms of different or same species, and knocking out genes. It has several potential benefits and applications, including preventing hereditary diseases, treating infectious diseases, producing desirable traits in animals and plants, increasing genetic diversity, and reducing threats like global warming. However, genetic engineering requires humans to be good stewards of the knowledge and technology to ensure its proper use.
