Interviews<br />We the students of Class 1-109 have taken the job on of interviewing a grandparent, parent or elder of the community<br />We used a list of questions that our teacher, Mrs. Wagner helped us with<br />We each interviewed the person to find out how life was when they were our age<br />
  3. 3. Where did you live when you were my age?<br />Then<br />Many of our parents and grandparents lived in other countries when they were our age<br />The places they lived in were Guyana, Ecuador, India, Pakistan, Columbia, Trinidad, Mexico, El Salvador<br />Now<br />We are living in Richmond Hill, New York<br />

What kind of home did you live in?<br />Then<br />A lot of the people we interview lived in houses<br />Some of them lived in big houses with big yards<br />A few people lived in apartments<br />One lived in a bungalow house<br />Now<br />Some of the students in class 1-109 live in apartments<br />Some live in houses<br />
  5. 5. What kind of toys did you play with?<br />Then<br />Many of the grandma’s and mom’s interviewed played with dolls, kitchen sets, jump rope, marbles, balls,<br />The grandpa’s and dad’s interviewed played with toy guns, toy trucks trains, and cars, bicycles, footballs and kites<br />Now <br />The girls in our class like to play with kitchen sets, dolls, silly bands, read books<br />The boys in our class like to play with toy guns, baseballs, footballs, soccer balls, bikes, transformers, toy cars <br />Everyone in our class likes to go to the park and play <br />

Where did you go to school when you were my age?<br />Then<br />Many of the people interviewed went to private schools or Catholic schools<br />Some went to government schools called DAV<br />Some also went to public school<br />Now<br />We all are in a public school <br />Other boys and girls do go to private or Catholic school<br />

What did the schools look like?<br />Then<br />These are some of the answers we got<br />Big wooden building and very old with a small yard<br />A building with 10-15 rooms and only one bathroom with a yard and big trees<br />Huge building that held 1000 children<br />Now<br />Our school is big and has three floors of classrooms<br />We have a beautiful school yard with many things to do in it<br />Our school yard has trees<br />
  9. 9. How many students did you have in your class?<br />Then<br />Some classes were small like 14 or 18 students<br />Some had 25 students<br />Other classes had 35-40 students<br />One even had 50 students<br />Now<br />Our class has 23 students<br />

Did you have lunch in school?<br />Then <br />My mom went to school in Ecuador and they had recess and had to bring money to buy something to eat (Carlo)<br />My mom went to school in Pakistan and did not have lunch in school. She ate when she went home (Filzah)<br />Our mom’s went to school in Mexico and Guyana and they ate lunch at school (Jennifer and Brianna)<br />My mom went to school in Columbia and she brought money to buy her lunch at school<br />My mom went to school in India and did not have lunch in school (Harvinder)<br />Now<br />At P.S. 62 we have lunch in school, we eat in the school cafeteria<br />Some of us bring our lunch with us to school<br />Some of us eat school lunch<br />Lunch at our school is free.<br />

How did you travel to school?<br />Then<br />Most of the people we interviewed walked to school<br />Some of them took a school bus<br />Now<br />Most of our class walks to school<br />Some of us come to school by car<br />No one in our class takes a school bus but we have students at our school who take the school bus<br />
  12. 12. We interviewed mom’s, dad’s, grandma’s and grandpa’s and learned so much about how things were when they went to school<br />
  13. 13. We learned that:<br /><ul><li>Some of our family wore uniforms to school just like we do
  14. 14. They played with some of the same kind of toys we do
  15. 15. They walked to school just like we do
  16. 16. Some of the did not eat lunch at school, they went home an ate after school
  17. 17. If they ate at school they paid for their lunch and we have free lunch
  18. 18. They did not have nice school like our school
  19. 19. They had a lot of children in their classes, not like us
  20. 20. They did not have a big playground with lots of play things like we have in our school</li>
