  2. 2. Voyage of the Beagle <ul><li>Charles Darwin had a 5 year trip on the H.M.S. Beagle in 1831, he made discoveries and formed the Evolutionary theory. </li></ul>
  3. 3. What Darwin Saw
  4. 4. On the Way Home <ul><li>During the trip home, Darwin studied his findings and discovered that the birds and tortoises may have been the same species at one time. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Acceptance of Darwin’s Theory <ul><li>It was hard for people back in Europe to accept Darwin’s theory. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Hutton and Lyell <ul><li>After studying the earth, they concluded that it slowly changes over time and that it is millions of years old rather than 6,000. </li></ul>
  7. 7. The Wrong Theory of Evolution <ul><li>Lamarck thought that if an animal used or didn’t use an organ, that it would change to adapt and passed on these traits. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Thomas Malthus <ul><li>In his Essay on the Principle of Population, he believes that we will run out of room on earth because of the growing population. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Natural Variation and Artificial Selection <ul><li>Darwin concluded that there are differences within a species, and that breeders used variation to develop stronger crops. </li></ul>
