  1. 1. “GREEN ROOM – Cultivating Creativity” GREEN Creativity The Department of Youth Welfare organised a programme “GREEN ROOM –Cultivating Creativity”, for the purpose of increasing creativity, self confidence,competence and compassion among selected students from 04th to 06th February 2011 atSMS Auditorium of the University. 20 Students from various Colleges / Schools/Departments and 10 student mentors were participated in the programme. Groom Room, the workshop for cultivating creativity was inaugurated at 9.30 AM bythe Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ramachandran Thekedath on 4th February 2011. SriPraveen C P, Chairman, University Union presided over the function. Ms. Ojas S.V, a knowntheatre artist from Pune was the guest of honour. The camp directors Mr. Manoj Kumar andMr. Vinod Kumar also attended the programme. Dr P.K Baby, Director, Students Welfarewelcomed the gathering and Ms. Uma T.S from School of Legal Studies proposed the voteof thanks. Dr. Ramachandran Thekkedath, Vice Sri. Ojas S.V lighting the lamp Chancellor, inaugurates the programme Following the inaugural session, a thrilling introduction through ice breaking wascarried out by Mr. Jatheen Jathavedhan. The participants were asked to introduce themselves 1
  2. 2. through small skits in a creative manner. After the lunch, Mr. Jijoy from School of Drama leda session on ‘acting and theatre games’. After Mr. Jijoy’s session, Ms. Ojas, S.V performeda soliloquy, Le Mashale, in which Irom Sharmila narrates the anguish and aspiration ofManipur through its fables, dances and major incidences which transformed her life. Theplay puts forth many questions raised by torch bearing women from the valley. Following theperformance, she shared her experiences with the participants. She handled one session on‘Space Utilisation and Properties’. The first day’s programme ended with camp evaluationafter dinner. On the second day, the participants reported at 8.00 AM and submitted camp dairy inwhich they wrote all that what influenced them last day. The first session was by Ms. OjasS.V on ‘Physical Theatre’. She used enormous exercises, activities and meditation fordiscovering the space around each person both physically and mentally. After the tea break,Mr. Manoj Kumar Shared his theatre and film experiences with participants. The afternoonsession was by Mr. Vinod Kumar. He explained the importance of script. Six scripts weredistributed among students to do theatre experiment under his guidance. At 6.30 PM, therewas a solo performance, ‘Dinesante katha’ by Mr. Vinod, this year’s Kerala Academy AwardWinner. Following it, he led a session on characterisation and voice modulation. The secondday’s programme ended with camp evaluation after dinner. 2

They lead session on ‘acting, stageutilisation and use of properties’. After lunch, Mr. Vinodkumar C.S guided variousparticipant groups for their performance. Mr. Santhosh Manjummal explained the groupsabout use of music in theatre and made them ready for their performance. At 6.30 PM performances started at different places in SMS garden. The sequence ofthe performance was, palam, velichenna, pullu, koonan, dramatics, varthamaanam, IsecNewton-num njanum, chorana koora. Mr. Arun, S from CELOS, CUSAT declared as thebest actor, Ms. Vidya Vijayan from CELOS, CUSAT declared as best actress and Mr.Sreejesh from SLS, CUSAT declared as best camper. The camp ended after evaluation at11.00 PM. 3
