The body weight should be balanced equally on both sides of this line. Suppose a woman is standing on one leg, and the body is still, you will find that the body volume is equally distributed on both sides of the line. If the volume is unevenly distributed, the body is in motion in the direction where the volume is greater. Plate 26 A & B PLATE 26A - BALANCE OFA FIGURE IN MOTION Note : How the plumb line passes through centre of neck and heel of the foot on which the weight is balanced PLATE 26B - BALANCED FIGURE AT REST Exercise – 7 Flesh out the stick figures given in Plate 32 , in correct proportions. Exercise – 8 Draw stick figures of the poses given in Plate 33. Exercise – 9 Make a drawing of four people in contrasting poses. One should look energetic, one should look busy, one should look lazy and one should look relaxed. Try and give the right expressions to their faces. As children , most of us have drawn men & women using simple lines. With the knowledge of human anatomy, you must now draw them in proportion and balanced. Drawing of stick figures includes the following stages. Finally flesh out the stick figures as shown in Plate 29. Stick figures can be used in creating any composition very easily and fast. A study of the skeletal structure and observation of people will give you an understanding of where the joints are placed in the human body. Reduce the body to a skeleton and visualise the principal structures, namely, line of shoulders, line of waist, line of hip and line of the limbs. Plate 29 shows stick figures in various poses of action. Full stretched Folded at elbow Movement at shoulder Possible movements of the arm Note: Please observe that proportion of a stick figure will vary slightly from the eight head proportion given chapter 1 1. Draw as a straight line and diveded it into three eqals parts. The three division are at the points where the body can bend. Shoulder Lower waist Knee Ankle Fig - 1 2. Add an oval for the head, which is equal to a little less than half of one part Fig - 2 3. Mark the shoulder width which is equal to one head on either side of the central line. 4. Now Draw as shown in figure 3. Yours stick figure is ready Fig - 3 Call a design school admission Expert on +91 89712 96752 Visit www.afdindia.com for more afdindia . gateway to global design schools

Keep a notepad handy, where you can jot down quick drawings of poses, which interests you. Try to observe some scenes outdoors and sketch stick figures of people in motion. Plate 30 & 31 show how stick figures have been converted into actual drawings. Note : The points at which the body bends, are the points which divided the body into three equals parts PLATE 28 - STICK FIGURES IN VARIOUS POSES OF ACTION Call a design school admission Expert on +91 89712 96752 Visit www.afdindia.com for more afdindia . gateway to global design schools
