Quoted speech refers to reproducing wordsexactly as they were originally spoken.Quotation marks (“…”) are used.Quoted speech is also called direct speech.Reported speech is also called indirectspeech.
There are three ways to makepreferablequotation of speech. Please you mayclick
Quoting one sentence Explanationa. She said, “My brother is astudent.”In (a) use a comma after she said.Capitalized the first word of thequoted sentence. Put the finalquotation marks outside of the periodat the end of sentence.b. “My brother is a student,” shesaid.In (b) use a comma, not a period, atthe end of the quoted sentence whenit precedes she said.Quoting more than one Explanationc. “My brother is a student. He isattending a university,” she said.In (c) quotation marks are placed atthe beginning and end of the completequote. Notice: there are no quotationmarks after student.Quoting a question or an exclamation Explanationd. She asked, “When will you behere?”f. “When will you be here?” sheasked.g. She said, “Watch out!”In (e) the question mark is inside thequotation markIn (f) if a question mark is used, nocomma is used before she asked.In (g) the exclamation point is insidethe quotation marks.

She said, “I should study hard.” She said that she should study hardh. She said, “Watch TV.” She told me to watch TVi. She said, “Do you watch TV?” She asked me whether I watched TVThere some reported verbs that can be used to expressquoted speech, such as: stated, say (said), told, asked, order,commanded, etc.
