Podcast listening saw a moderate decline during the initial 8 weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic as people adjusted to stay-at-home orders and workplace/school closures. However, listening levels did not drop significantly and were beginning to return to pre-pandemic levels by late April. News, topical, and COVID-19 related shows saw increased popularity while genres like comedy and sports initially declined but later rebounded. Kids podcasts also grew more popular as parents sought entertainment for children. Overall, podcasts remained an important source of information and escape for many listeners during this period of disruption.
