This document describes 19 different types of verbal reasoning questions that may be included in a verbal reasoning course. The questions cover a range of topics including letter and number patterns, word analogies, hidden words, math word problems, and more. For each type, a brief description and example is provided to illustrate the format and task. The goal is to practice and improve skills in areas like logical thinking, problem solving, pattern recognition, vocabulary and more.
1. 11+ Verbal Reasoning Course at Explore Learning
Type1: Letter Move
One letter from the word on the left must be moved into the word on the right to make two new words.
The letters must not be re-arranged. Both new works must make sense
Eg: CLIMB LOSE => LIMB CLOSE
Type 2: Partial Word:
One word , which in this example is in Capitals, has had three consecutive letters taken out. These three
letters will make one correctly spelt word without changing the order
A School is a place of LNING
Answers: ARE EAR ONE NOD LID
The answer is EAR since L(EAR)NING becomes learning , which means “A School is a place of Learning “

Type 3: Antonyms
Find two words one from each group , that are the most opposite in meaning. Mark these two words on
the answer sheet

Type 4: Analogies
Find two words , one from each group, that will complete the sentence in the best way
Time is to ( first, second, third ) as distance is to ( gram, kilo, meter)
Car is to ( engine , wheel , exhaust ) as ship is to ( rudder, sails, captain)
Type 5: Number Sequence:
Record the number that continues the series in the most sensible way

Type 8: compound words
Mark the two words , one from each set , that together makes one correctly spelt word, without

Type 10: Word Connection
Find one letter that will complete the word in front of the brackets and begin the word after the
brackets. The same letter must fit into both sets of brackets.

Type 12: Synonyms
Find two words, one from each group that are the closest in meaning

Type 13: Word Scramble
There are 3 pairs of words, you must complete the third pair in the same way as the first two pairs

Type14: Hidden word
A four letter word is hidden at the end of the one word and the beginning of the next word. Find the
pair of words that contain the hidden word.

Type 15: Word Combination:
The three words in the second should go together in the same way as the three in the first group, Find
the missing word from the second group and mark it in the answer section:

Find the number that will complete the sum correctly and record it in the answer box
