  1. 1. In 2011 the growth and impact ofsocial media was greater than ever You think Google is still the most visited site? Think again!
  2. 2. In 2011 Facebook overtook Googleas the most visited site online.11% of the world population now has afacebook account.In fact there are now more Facebook usersthan cars (800,000,000 Facebook usersVS. 750,000,000 motor vehicles).50% of these users log on to Facebookevery single day.

The average Facebook user has 130Friends and spends 700 minutes permonth on the site.Every 60 seconds on Facebook there are:510,000 comments posted293,000 status updates136,000 photos uploadedThis adds up to over 30 billion pieces ofcontent being shared each month.Facebook alone accounts for 10% of allmobile data used on iPhones.
  4. 4. Twitter now has over 225,000,000 userswho send 150,000,000 tweets per day.That’s 1736 tweets per second.Their personal record so far was 8900tweets a second.Communication is becoming shorter withthe majority of tweets made up of only 40characters.The average user has 115 followers.
  5. 5. Linked In now has 135,000,000 users.That is 17 times the population of Londonwith 2 new users signing up every second.Users include executives from everycompany listed on the fortune 500.Age demographics of Linked In:18-24 year olds 21%25-34 year olds 36%35 -54 year olds 36%55+ year olds 7%
  6. 6. YouTube now has 490,000,000 uniquevisitors, which generate 92,000,000,000page views each month.Last year they reached 700,000,000,000playbacks.35 hours of video is uploaded everyminute, in fact more video is uploaded toYouTube in 60 days than the 3 major USnetworks created in 60 years.
  7. 7. 3500 photos are uploaded to Flickr everysecond.G+ is growing rapidly and already has50,000,000 users.Instagram’s 2,200,000 users upload3,600,000 new photos per week (or 6photos per second).Foursquare is now averaging 2,000,000check-ins a week.Smartphone owners are twice as active onsocial media as non-smartphone owners.Women are more active on social mediathen men (55% vs 45%).
