Southern Visions Puglia 7 Day Villa and Bike Itinerary

Day 1 – Saturday - Arrive in Monopoli. You will be met by one of Southern Visions (SV’s) professional
guides, who will go over all the logistics, answer questions, fit you to your bikes, provide you with all
pertinent contact info for Puglia, and give you an introduction to the Villa. Your guide will review your
route maps and make suggestions for places to visit this evening and dine! Welcome to Monopoli!!!

Day 2 - Today is a short loop ride to the Roman Ruins of Egnazia, and then you will cycle along the coast
into the town of Savelletri for a stop. Savelletri is a very colorful village with fisherman boats and the
freshest seafood in Puglia. Cycle back to the villa in the afternoon and take a rest before venturing out
to the Centro Storico of Monopoli, where there are so many wonderful dinner options, which include
restaurants off the port that serve some of Italy’s freshest seafood. Or, if you choose, sample some of
the best pizza at Il Tronco……whichever dinner option you choose, make sure to leave room for a gelato
at one of the many shops in the city. (30 km ride)

Day 3 – Monopoli/Polignano/Conversano Loop Ride – Today, you will load your bicycles on your car rack
and drive to your origination point, Masseria Tenuta Chianchizza. From here, you pedal north along the
coast to the postcard vista town of Polignano. This is a great way to get your morning started, as you
enjoy a ride through a town that even the Southern Visions Team considers its own little respite from its
busy workdays in Monopoli. Although this is a morning ride, we strongly suggest a breakfast of an
amazing gelato or even more intense granita di caffe from “Il Super Mago del Gelo” – The super
magician of ice cream. You then pedal inland to Conversano, the first of many beautiful hilltop towns.
Conversano is full of character and a great way to get the legs prepared for riding all week. We will
provide you with the best options and stops, and suggest some of our favorite locations for lunch. You
glide back down from Conversano to Monopoli and the Masseria Tenuta Chianchizza, where you will put
the bikes back on the rack and head back to the villa for a rest or into town for a walk. We hope you
enjoy this active day! (58 km ride)

Day 4 – Take a day off and go explore Salento! We would recommend take a day off at this point to
head down to Lecce, which is known as the Florence of the south. We can help you locate a charming
papier-mâché making studio, antique shops and many more interesting places in this artistic, baroque
style town. Make sure to enjoy a lazy cappuccino at a local cafe in this amazing architectural gem of a
city. And, no trip to Lecce is complete without trying the rustico and pasticchico – we guarantee you will
have one in each hand, eating to your heart’s content.

Day 5 – Alberobello & the Itria Valley! Wake up and rack the bikes for an action packed day that will
begin and end in Alberobello. Your Southern Visions Guide will meet you and take you on a professional,
guided walking tour of Alberobello. We will roam around the historic center of Alberobello, navigating
through narrow streets, browsing through the indigenous souvenir shops, and tasting local food at the
shops. Next, follow the cycling route deep into the Itria Valley to visit stunning Locorotondo, nicknamed
“città del vino” for its excellent dry white spumante wine made from verdeca grapes. Take the
opportunity to stroll through the atmospheric alleyways bedecked with geraniums and citrus plants.
Continue cycling on to Martina Franca, a must-see town for its marvellously intact historic centre,
beautiful Baroque architecture, and stunning palazzi, an architectural jewel, splendidly positioned on
the hillside with wonderful panoramic views across the Itria Valley. After Martina Franca, cycle along the
route back to Alberobello, and re-rack the bikes for transport back to the Villa. Tonight may be a good
night to relax at the Villa! (49 Km ride)

Day 6 – We recommend taking one day to relax and enjoy some sensory experiences. We can
recommend a way for you to embark on an olive oil tasting, indulge your culinary senses, and visit some
local special sites based on your desires and needs. We can also offer you services direct to your villa at
Ca del Fico, which include an olive oil massage, relaxing by the pool, and/or bringing in a private chef
join for a cooking lesson and meal.

Day 7 – Cisterno & Ostuni. Today, your ride will begin and end at the Masseria Salamina. First, you will
ride from Masseria Salamina to Cisternino, one of the most lovely and chic hilltop towns in Puglia. Here
you will have sweeping views of the Itria valley below and a chance to see why this town is starting to
gain some serious international status. You then cycle through the olive groves and rock strewn fields to
the stunning Citta Bianca, Ostuni. Here you will enjoy a fabulous lunch on your own and breathe in the
clean air from the sea only 6KM away. Following lunch, you will pedal back down Pezze di Greco to your
car at Masseria and then back to villa. “La dolce vita” ( 65 km ride)

Day 8 – Arrivederci! We bid you farewell today. We know you will be changed for the better having
visited us in Puglia, as we are all changed for the better living here. It will be our pleasure to assist you in
checking out of Ca del Fico by 10:30 a.m. We look forward to seeing you again in Puglia, as we know
once you have visited the Region, you will be back for more.

U.S.A: +1.713-540-0989

We suggest you arrive at the Bari or Brindisi Airport at a time which allows you to rent your vehicle
and drive to the Villa to arrive for a check in time no earlier than 4:00 p.m., on your chosen Saturday
arrival.
                                 ARRIVING AND DEPARTING - LOGISTICS

After reviewing the following information, please inform us of your arrival and departure plans on the
Personal Information Form.

Flight arrangements

We recommend flying into Milan or Rome. You can then catch a flight to Bari (airport code: BRI) from
either city. Or, if you don’t mind the longer travel time and the possibility of delays, you can take the
train to Bari. You can see below.

Getting from the Bari airport to the Bari train station

A taxi ride from the airport to the train station takes 25-30 minutes and costs around €20. An Autolinee
Tempesta bus ride to the Bari train station takes approximately 30 minutes and costs €4,15.
Taking the train to Bari from Rome, Milan or Florence

The trip from Rome takes about 5 hours; from Milan it’s about 8 ½ hours; from Florence, expect
approximately 7 ½ hours of travel.

Train travel in Italy

We suggest purchasing rail tickets and making reservations through your own travel agent. For more
information on rail travel in Italy, visit the web www.trenitalia.com. There you can purchase tickets and
book your seat by using your credit card.

You can purchase Italian rail tickets from any train station in Italy, but some very small stations. Many
stations are equipped with automatic ticket machines, from which you can purchase tickets and
reservation coupons for travel in Italy and for principal cross-border routes. The machines accept cash,
credit card and ATM card with your PIN.

If you travel on one of Italy’s faster trains, including Eurocity, Intercity and Eurostar, you’ll be charged a
supplemental fare in addition to the regular ticket price. If you travel on these trains without your
supplemental ticket, you’ll be fined. Eurostar and Intercity trains require a seat reservation for travel at
all times. For travel on intercity trains, reservations are not mandatory; however, you may want to pay
the extra reservation charge for a guaranteed seat, simply for peace of mind. If you know you’ll be
taking the train during a peak local travel period, such as a holiday, you’ll definitely want to make
reservations or you risk standing for your entire trip. Italy’s slower train (Rapido, Espresso, Regionale,
Inter regionale and Locale) don’t require a reservation or a supplement ticket.

Boarding the train

To find your platform, which will be listed at least 10 minutes prior to departure, check the small TV
screens or the larger schedule boards in the main station area. If you are travelling without reservations,
you’ll need to validate your “open” ticket by stamping it at one of the small yellow machines located on
each train platform (the machine stamps the date and the time on the open ticket to prevent multiple
uses). If you forget to stamp your ticket before boarding, tell the on-board ticket inspector immediately
to avoid a supplementary fee.

Sv Puglia 7 Day Villa And Bike Program V1 0

  • 1. Southern Visions Villa & Bike Program WELCOME TO PUGLIA! We will meet at Ca del Fico any time after check in at 4 p.m. on your Saturday arrival date. It is very important to note that check in at the Villa is on Saturdays, or special approval will need to be made by the Owner and Southern Visions. It is very important to note that not all of your bicycle rides will originiate from the villa, so it is important that you rent a car for your trip. This trip is so special because not only will you have the luxury and comfort of a private villa, but we have designed a fantastic trip that is customizable by you! Your cycling routes and trip design are flexible in that you are able to decide in which order you will experience the days below. We think you will be very impressed with the caliber of bicycle we provide, a Dynatek Road Bike with Shimano parts. What you get: 8 Days with 7 Nights Lodging in a beautiful villa in Monopoli Two (2) Top Notch Southern Visions Bikes 1 Bike Rack and Installation Welcome briefing, logistic talk and a Bike fitting Detailed Maps and Route Notes Peace of Mind knowing you are with the most professional service in Southern Italy COST per person (Ask about specific dates to confirm rates; general, seasonal rates below) Seasonal Rates 2399.00 Euros Low Seson 1449.00 Euros Mid Season 1759.00 Euros High Season 2179.00 Euros
  • 2. Peak Season 2399.00 Euros Southern Visions Puglia 7 Day Villa and Bike Itinerary Day 1 – Saturday - Arrive in Monopoli. You will be met by one of Southern Visions (SV’s) professional guides, who will go over all the logistics, answer questions, fit you to your bikes, provide you with all pertinent contact info for Puglia, and give you an introduction to the Villa. Your guide will review your route maps and make suggestions for places to visit this evening and dine! Welcome to Monopoli!!! Day 2 - Today is a short loop ride to the Roman Ruins of Egnazia, and then you will cycle along the coast into the town of Savelletri for a stop. Savelletri is a very colorful village with fisherman boats and the freshest seafood in Puglia. Cycle back to the villa in the afternoon and take a rest before venturing out to the Centro Storico of Monopoli, where there are so many wonderful dinner options, which include restaurants off the port that serve some of Italy’s freshest seafood. Or, if you choose, sample some of the best pizza at Il Tronco……whichever dinner option you choose, make sure to leave room for a gelato at one of the many shops in the city. (30 km ride) Day 3 – Monopoli/Polignano/Conversano Loop Ride – Today, you will load your bicycles on your car rack and drive to your origination point, Masseria Tenuta Chianchizza. From here, you pedal north along the coast to the postcard vista town of Polignano. This is a great way to get your morning started, as you enjoy a ride through a town that even the Southern Visions Team considers its own little respite from its busy workdays in Monopoli. Although this is a morning ride, we strongly suggest a breakfast of an amazing gelato or even more intense granita di caffe from “Il Super Mago del Gelo” – The super magician of ice cream. You then pedal inland to Conversano, the first of many beautiful hilltop towns. Conversano is full of character and a great way to get the legs prepared for riding all week. We will provide you with the best options and stops, and suggest some of our favorite locations for lunch. You glide back down from Conversano to Monopoli and the Masseria Tenuta Chianchizza, where you will put the bikes back on the rack and head back to the villa for a rest or into town for a walk. We hope you enjoy this active day! (58 km ride) Day 4 – Take a day off and go explore Salento! We would recommend take a day off at this point to head down to Lecce, which is known as the Florence of the south. We can help you locate a charming papier-mâché making studio, antique shops and many more interesting places in this artistic, baroque style town. Make sure to enjoy a lazy cappuccino at a local cafe in this amazing architectural gem of a city. And, no trip to Lecce is complete without trying the rustico and pasticchico – we guarantee you will have one in each hand, eating to your heart’s content. Day 5 – Alberobello & the Itria Valley! Wake up and rack the bikes for an action packed day that will begin and end in Alberobello. Your Southern Visions Guide will meet you and take you on a professional, guided walking tour of Alberobello. We will roam around the historic center of Alberobello, navigating through narrow streets, browsing through the indigenous souvenir shops, and tasting local food at the shops. Next, follow the cycling route deep into the Itria Valley to visit stunning Locorotondo, nicknamed “città del vino” for its excellent dry white spumante wine made from verdeca grapes. Take the
  • 3. opportunity to stroll through the atmospheric alleyways bedecked with geraniums and citrus plants. Continue cycling on to Martina Franca, a must-see town for its marvellously intact historic centre, beautiful Baroque architecture, and stunning palazzi, an architectural jewel, splendidly positioned on the hillside with wonderful panoramic views across the Itria Valley. After Martina Franca, cycle along the route back to Alberobello, and re-rack the bikes for transport back to the Villa. Tonight may be a good night to relax at the Villa! (49 Km ride) Day 6 – We recommend taking one day to relax and enjoy some sensory experiences. We can recommend a way for you to embark on an olive oil tasting, indulge your culinary senses, and visit some local special sites based on your desires and needs. We can also offer you services direct to your villa at Ca del Fico, which include an olive oil massage, relaxing by the pool, and/or bringing in a private chef join for a cooking lesson and meal. Day 7 – Cisterno & Ostuni. Today, your ride will begin and end at the Masseria Salamina. First, you will ride from Masseria Salamina to Cisternino, one of the most lovely and chic hilltop towns in Puglia. Here you will have sweeping views of the Itria valley below and a chance to see why this town is starting to gain some serious international status. You then cycle through the olive groves and rock strewn fields to the stunning Citta Bianca, Ostuni. Here you will enjoy a fabulous lunch on your own and breathe in the clean air from the sea only 6KM away. Following lunch, you will pedal back down Pezze di Greco to your car at Masseria and then back to villa. “La dolce vita” ( 65 km ride) Day 8 – Arrivederci! We bid you farewell today. We know you will be changed for the better having visited us in Puglia, as we are all changed for the better living here. It will be our pleasure to assist you in checking out of Ca del Fico by 10:30 a.m. We look forward to seeing you again in Puglia, as we know once you have visited the Region, you will be back for more.

FINAL THOUGHTS Please be sure to note these important contact numbers, should you need assistance before, during, or after your trip: Puglia: +39.340.264.4128 or +39.080.416.0030 U.S.A: +1.713-540-0989 We suggest you arrive at the Bari or Brindisi Airport at a time which allows you to rent your vehicle and drive to the Villa to arrive for a check in time no earlier than 4:00 p.m., on your chosen Saturday arrival. ARRIVING AND DEPARTING - LOGISTICS After reviewing the following information, please inform us of your arrival and departure plans on the Personal Information Form. Flight arrangements We recommend flying into Milan or Rome. You can then catch a flight to Bari (airport code: BRI) from either city. Or, if you don’t mind the longer travel time and the possibility of delays, you can take the train to Bari. You can see below. Getting from the Bari airport to the Bari train station A taxi ride from the airport to the train station takes 25-30 minutes and costs around €20. An Autolinee Tempesta bus ride to the Bari train station takes approximately 30 minutes and costs €4,15.
  • 5. Taking the train to Bari from Rome, Milan or Florence The trip from Rome takes about 5 hours; from Milan it’s about 8 ½ hours; from Florence, expect approximately 7 ½ hours of travel. Train travel in Italy We suggest purchasing rail tickets and making reservations through your own travel agent. For more information on rail travel in Italy, visit the web www.trenitalia.com. There you can purchase tickets and book your seat by using your credit card. You can purchase Italian rail tickets from any train station in Italy, but some very small stations. Many stations are equipped with automatic ticket machines, from which you can purchase tickets and reservation coupons for travel in Italy and for principal cross-border routes. The machines accept cash, credit card and ATM card with your PIN. If you travel on one of Italy’s faster trains, including Eurocity, Intercity and Eurostar, you’ll be charged a supplemental fare in addition to the regular ticket price. If you travel on these trains without your supplemental ticket, you’ll be fined. Eurostar and Intercity trains require a seat reservation for travel at all times. For travel on intercity trains, reservations are not mandatory; however, you may want to pay the extra reservation charge for a guaranteed seat, simply for peace of mind. If you know you’ll be taking the train during a peak local travel period, such as a holiday, you’ll definitely want to make reservations or you risk standing for your entire trip. Italy’s slower train (Rapido, Espresso, Regionale, Inter regionale and Locale) don’t require a reservation or a supplement ticket. Boarding the train To find your platform, which will be listed at least 10 minutes prior to departure, check the small TV screens or the larger schedule boards in the main station area. If you are travelling without reservations, you’ll need to validate your “open” ticket by stamping it at one of the small yellow machines located on each train platform (the machine stamps the date and the time on the open ticket to prevent multiple uses). If you forget to stamp your ticket before boarding, tell the on-board ticket inspector immediately to avoid a supplementary fee.
