Indus Action - Project Eklavya, Campaign 2014-15

Section 12(1)(c) of the Right to Education Act provides for 25% reservation in private unaided schools for children belonging to Economically Weaker Sections of the society. In its premier project-Eklavya, INDUS ACTION seeks to make this bold provision a reality.

Indus Action - Project Eklavya, Campaign 2014-15

  2. 2. India is the world’s largest democracy and one of the fastest growing nations in the world
  3. 3. While we are making strides in many areas, we still lack behind in many more
  4. 4. We have some great policies but fall behind due to poor implementation
  5. 5. How long can we continue to wait for the government to deliver? It's time to take ownership of our problems
  6. 6. Indus Action is striving hard to bridge the policy implementation gap
  7. 7. by bringing in innovative ideas to build scalable models
  8. 8. Last year we ran a successful pilot campaign and understood the ground reality
  9. 9. This year Project Eklavya aims to make atleast 10k applications from all over Delhi to fill the 25% free seats under RTE Section 12
  10. 10. Let us try to understand the problem first
  11. 11. 25% seats in all private schools are available for free for economically weak and disadvantaged kids*
  12. 12. but less than 10% eligible families are aware of it
  13. 13. to solve this we just need to provide Right Information to the Right Person and at the Right Time
  14. 14. Indus Action cannot reach every eligible family on its own
  15. 15. but together we can
  16. 16. The only question remains
  17. 17. We have identified not one but three easy ways 1) Reaching out low income housing communities 2) Engaging their employers 3) Empowering high income individuals
  18. 18. Model 1 Seeking partners in every low income community in Delhi
  19. 19. and bringing like minded people together to form a coalition
  20. 20. to engage them to become community champions
  21. 21. and identify information hubs to spread awareness
  22. 22. to ensure that every parent is aware of of their child’s right to education and the procedures to realize it
  23. 23. Model 2 Engaging the employers
  24. 24. and encouraging them to support their employees
  25. 25. by sharing relevant information and providing backend support
  26. 26. Model 3 Empowering the individuals
  27. 27. You sign up as as a Champion
  28. 28. and get all the necessary information on the go
  29. 29. Tell your domestic help, driver, cook, dhobi etc. about RTE Section 12
  30. 30. and support eligible parents to submit application
  31. 31. For all the three models, Indus Action provides Necessary information easy access continuous support
  32. 32. What happens after all this?
  33. 33. The families submit their application and the schools conducts lottery
  34. 34. The kids get admission to some of the best schools
  35. 35. they rise and shine to make the nation proud
  36. 36. All champions build leadership and citizenship potential
  37. 37. This way we have collectively solved the problem
  38. 38. and the world sees a unique example of Participatory Democracy
