The implementation has been planned to occur in carefully staged phases, with timing also determined by geographical area. Milestone 1 involved reducing bandwidth, mainly for land mobile services, in parts of the band other than segments involved in milestone 2. The reason this change was not required for the milestone 2 segments is so that users in these segments would need to change systems only once. A disadvantage is that the changes required are significant. Mario is going to give detail on milestone 2, what you need to do, when you need to do it by, what alternatives are available and how the ACMA can help.
Milestone 3 follows milestone 2 and, as I mentioned, involves the migration of government and non government services into their segments, completing government spectrum harmonisation in the band.
