Teresa Corbin, CEO ACCAN - Mobile Network Performance Forum

  1. 1. Mobile Network Performance Forum Teresa Corbin – ACCAN CEO
  2. 2. How do consumers describe problems generally? “Telstra 3G is now no better than the other 2 – maybe it's oversubscribed, but it's worse than a year ago and can be absolutely rubbish at rush hour” - Mickey Cee, Whirlpool Forums “For the last two weeks I have been experiencing call drop outs at home with the Optus network. I have called Optus and they said its congestion and they are putting in new towers in the area but would not give me a time frame. Help!” – Nero100 Whirlpool Forums
  3. 3. How do consumers describe problems in rural and remote areas? “We live on a farm in Willunga, SA. There is a phone tower just 2km from us. We have intermittent and at times, no reception on our mobile phones - worse in overcast, windy and foggy conditions. Telstra IT tell us we are located in a black spot and although Telstra has been helpful in supplying us with the latest technology to rectify the problem, the fact is that it simply does not work.” “The old, superseded analogue system had the best coverage. We have found that each new, you-beaut system brought out provided worse coverage than the one it replaced. City folk seem to be the ones catered to, not people from isolated, country areas that need it most. It is ludicrous that you can be 100km from Brisbane and still get patchy service, even from Telstra. As for other providers, most people have no phone overage at all.”
