A digital story typically begins with a script. The storyteller then assembles rich media to support the ideas and emotions in thatscript, including musicor other audio effects, personal or public- domain images, animations or video, and other electronic elements.
To be ready for college, workforcetraining, and life in a technologicalsociety, students need the ability togather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize, and report on information andideas, toconduct original researchin order toanswer questions or solveproblems, and to analyze and createa high volume and extensive rangeof print and non-print texts in mediaforms old and new.
The need to conduct research and to produce and consume media isembedded into every aspectof today’s curriculum. In likefashion, research and media skills and understandings are embedded throughout the Standards rather than treated in a separate section.
Creating and watching digital stories has thepotential to increase theinformation literacy of awide range of students.
Moreover, digitalstories are a natural fit for e- portfolios, allowingstudents not only to select representative artifacts from their academic careers but also to create compelling resources that demonstrate the student’s learning and growth.
