  3. 3. <ul><li>Christian ministry </li></ul><ul><li>= refers to “serving the people of God.” </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>Ministry is whatever a baptized Christian does in public for God’s kingdom in behalf of the Christian community and animated by the grace of the Holy Spirit. </li></ul><ul><li>Ministry is not a privilege of only a few </li></ul><ul><li>People but is the vocation of all baptized Christians. </li></ul>

  6. 6. <ul><li>Ordained Ministry </li></ul><ul><li>This ministry arises from the Sacrament of Holy Orders through which the ministers receive the authority and power to serve and lead the Church. </li></ul>

  9. 9. <ul><li>Religious Ministry </li></ul><ul><li>The religious are those baptized Christians who bind themselves to Christ in a state of life consecrated to God by the profession of the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience . </li></ul>

  11. 12. The mission of the Church <ul><li>to proclaim the Good News and build the Kingdom </li></ul><ul><li>This truth springs from the fact that the whole Church is missionary and that every individual Christian is called to partake in her mission. </li></ul>
  12. 13. The Role of the bishop <ul><li>The bishop is a supreme, divinely instituted member of the Church hierarchy. </li></ul><ul><li>He has received the highest of the holy orders, is invested with the authority to govern a diocese, and is a successor of the Apostles. </li></ul>

Duties of the bishop <ul><li>To teach or guard the purity of the doctrine and see that it is given to others </li></ul><ul><li>To guard the morals of the faithful </li></ul><ul><li>To reside in his jurisdiction </li></ul><ul><li>To visit the parishes of his diocese regularly </li></ul><ul><li>To proclaim the gospel </li></ul>
  14. 15. Gift of infallibility <ul><li>College of Bishops teaching in communion with Peter’s successor, the Pope, preserves the Church from error in teaching what God has revealed in faith and morals. </li></ul>
  15. 16. <ul><li>Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life, through his Holy Spirit, will preserve his Church from error in its solemn, definitive teaching of the deposit of faith. </li></ul>
  16. 17. The Role of the Priest <ul><li>The priest offers sacrifice and has the threefold power: </li></ul><ul><li>a. teaching, </li></ul><ul><li>b. ministering </li></ul><ul><li>c. governing. </li></ul>
  17. 18. The Role of the Deacon <ul><li>Proclaims the Gospel, sometimes preaches God’s Word, leads the general intercession of the faithful, assists the priest, gives communion to the faithful, and, sometimes, gives directions to the congregation. </li></ul>

  19. 20. <ul><li>Lay Ministry </li></ul><ul><li>This ministry is founded on the Sacrament of Baptism and Confirmation , and for many, in the Sacrament of Matrimony . </li></ul>

Role of the Laity <ul><li>derived from the Greek word- people. </li></ul><ul><li>It is the general term used for all the members of the Mystical Body, of the Church universal, of the Catholic and other Christians who are not members of a professed religious order or are not ordained </li></ul>
  23. 24. Role of the Laity <ul><li>The Second Plenary council of the Philippines characterizes the lay apostolate as a divine right; and that this call is by virtue of Baptism and Confirmation. </li></ul>
  24. 25. The Lay Faithful proclaim the Good News of Christ by: <ul><li>1. Building families where the spirituality of the Christian is nurtured and rooted in the Word of God. It is in the family where the various ministries in the Church are awakened and cultivated. </li></ul>
  25. 26. The Lay Faithful proclaim the Good News of Christ <ul><li>2. means of their Christian presence . The lay faithful, through their life, give witness to Christ – Christ who loves, Christ who serves, Christ who saves – and through their presence, they influence, inspire and direct the world </li></ul>
  26. 27. The lay Faithful proclaim the Good News of Christ <ul><li>3. means of service and evangelization . The evangelizing task of the lay faithful is lived out within the complex world of education; politics, society and economics, as well as the world of culture, of the sciences and arts, of intentional life, of the mass media. </li></ul>
  27. 28. The lay Faithful proclaim the Good News of Christ <ul><li>4. working for social transformation . The lay faithful proclaim the good news of Christ’s love by healing and transforming society, by preparing the temporal order for the final establishment of the Kingdom of God. </li></ul>
  28. 29. <ul><li>Every member of the Church shares in her mission of spreading the faith. This mission is carried out both by the ordained ministries and the ministries of the lay apostolate. </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
