  2. 2. PERSONAL DETAIL  Born on September 9,1878 in Cebu City.  His Mother is Juana Osmena gave birth to him at 14.  illegitimate, his father unknown.  A Chinese - Filipino citizen.
  3. 3. PERSONAL LIFE  Married Estefania Chiong Veloso on April 10, 1901 and have 10 children.  Again married in 1920 but to Esperanza Limjap after his first wife died two years. The couple had three children.  Died on October 19, 1961 ( age 83 ) in Breast cancer and Liver failure at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Quezon City.  Buried in the Manila North Cemetary, Manila
  4. 4. SCHOOL  He graduate Elementary at Colegio de San Carlos .  San Juan de Letran: first met manuel l. Quezon as well as Juan Sumulong and Emilio Jacinto.  Study in University of Sto. Tomas and 2nd place in Bar Examination in 1903.

OSMENA‘S LIFE ON AMERICAN COLONIZATION  Founded the newspaper ‘ El Nuevo Dia’ a Cebu newspaper in 1900.  A staff of General Emilio Aguinaldo as courier and journalist during war.  American colonial administration appointed him as Governor of Cebu in 1904 - 1907. a. Founded the Nationalist Party.  Member and Speaker of National Assembly in 1907 – 1916.
  7. 7. cont:  Member and Speaker of the House of Representatives from Cebu’s 2nd district (1907 1922)  Senator of the Philippines from the 10th Senatorial District . (1922 – 1935)  Attend to U.S as part of OsRox Mission(1933) to secure passage of the Hare Hawes Cutting Independence Bill suspended by Tyding McDuffie Act in 1934.
  8. 8. cont:  2nd Vice President pro Tempore of the Philippines a. Won up against Emilio Aguinaldo and Bishop Gregorio Aglipay. b. Hare Hawes Cutting Act : first law aiming to end the American Colony in the Philippines.

(1935- 1940)  2nd Vice President of the Philippines.(19351944)  Secretary of the Public Instruction , Health and Welfare(1941-1944)  Second President of the Philippines. (19441946) • Succeeded as President after Quezon’s death in Tuberculosis on U.S. • THE oldest Philippines President in the age of 65.
  10. 10. OSMENA ON JAPANESE COLONIZATION  December 1941 , The Japan invade the Philippines .  The Philippines Commonwealth Government – In – Exile took place on U.S Mainland .  Quezon – Osmena Impassed.
  11. 11. LIBERATION OF PHILIPPINES  Landing at Leyte: A Historical event of Osmena came back as the President after Quezon died in U.S together with General Douglas Mc Arthur and liberation allied force .
