  9. 9. What is HAYA?<br />Haya..... Arabic term derived<br /> from “Hayat” means life<br />
  10. 10. Mostly translated as……..<br />Modesty,<br />Shamefulness<br /> Shyness. <br />Unlike shyness does not mean lack of self-confidence.<br />
  11. 11. MODESTY?<br /><ul><li>Modesty:</li></ul> linked to the Latin modestus, ‘keeping within<br /> measure’,<br /><ul><li>The Oxford Pocket Dictionary:</li></ul>“ behavior, manner, or appearance<br /> intended to avoid indecency”<br />
  12. 12. <ul><li>Islam:</li></ul>true modesty: <br />fear and obey Allah in all things<br /> large and small, public and<br /> private.<br />
  13. 13. Haya = Inner modesty+ outer modesty<br />
  14. 14. Person having Haya!<br />Ashamed to commit a crime or a thing which Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam) has forbidden. <br />
  15. 15. 'Be shy of Allah’<br /> Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mas'ud relates that one day the Prophet said, 'Be shy of Allah (God) Most High as much as is His due.' The companions present said, 'All praise to Allah, we are shy of Him.' The Prophet said, 'That is not the point. <br />
  16. 16. “Whoever is shy of Allah as much as is His due, he should protect his head and that which it comprises (i.e. mind, mouth, ears),<br /> his stomach and that which is adjoining it (i.e. preserve it from unlawful wealth and protect the private parts from the unlawful),<br /> and he should remember death and that which is to come after it; <br /> and whoever desires the Hereafter should abandon the adornments of this world. Whoever fulfills these duties has been shy of Allah as much as is His due.'" (Musnad Ahmad)<br />

  47. 47. Quranic ADVICE <br />“And come not near to adultery Lo! it is an abomination and an evil way”<br /> (32-17)<br />

Is Haya a private affair?<br />Haya is not morality to be imposed, but something that must arise from within a people. <br />But at the same time, it is not a private affair. <br />It is an established and accepted social morality which members of society collectively regard as desirable.<br />
  49. 49. Examples of Haya in a society<br />Public Haya is the reason that even in secular Muslim countries you will not find collective shower rooms in school dorms, community gyms,<br />
  50. 50. men and women prefer to be seen and treated by a doctor of the same gender. <br />
  51. 51. Muslim men and women avoid situations where they will be alone with a non-related member of the opposite sex.<br />you will not find the demonstration of public affection between spouses in public. <br />

  58. 58. قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوافُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ<br />"Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! God is aware of what they do..." (Quran 24:30-31)<br />ایمان والوں سے کہہ دو کہ وہ اپنی نگاہ نیچی رکھا کریں اور اپنی شرم گاہوں کو بھی محفوظ رکھیں یہ ان کے لیے بہت پاکیزہ ہے بے شک الله جانتا ہے جو وہ کرتے ہیں<br />
  59. 59. وَقُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّ ۖ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَائِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَائِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ إِخْوَانِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِي إِخْوَانِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِي أَخَوَاتِهِنَّ أَوْ نِسَائِهِنَّ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُنَّ أَوِ التَّابِعِينَ غَيْرِ أُولِي الْإِرْبَةِ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ أَوِ الطِّفْلِ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَىٰ عَوْرَاتِ النِّسَاءِ ۖ وَلَا يَضْرِبْنَ بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ لِيُعْلَمَ مَا يُخْفِينَ مِنْ زِينَتِهِنَّ ۚ وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ<br />
  60. 60. اور ایمان والیوں سے کہہ دو کہ اپنینگاہ نیچی رکھیںاور<br /> اپنیعصمت کی حفاظت کریں اور اپنی زینت کو ظاہر نہ کریںمگر جو جگہ اس میں سے کھلی رہتی ہےاوراپنے دوپٹے اپنے سینوں پر ڈالے رکھیںاوراپنی زینت ظاہر نہ کریں مگر اپنے خاوندوں پر یا اپنے باپ یا خاوند کے باپ یا اپنے بھائیوں یا بھتیجوں یا بھانجوں پر یا اپنی عورتوں پر یا اپنے غلاموں پر یا ان خدمت گاروں پر جنہیں عورت کی حاجت نہیں یا ان لڑکوں پر جو عورتوں کی پردہ کی چیزوں سے واقف نہیں اور اپنے پاؤں زمین پر زور سے نہ ماریں کہ ان کا مخفی زیور معلوم ہوجائےاوراے مسلمانو تم سب الله کے سامنے توبہ کرو تاکہ تم نجات پاؤ<br />(surahnoor verse31).<br />

  66. 66. six criteria:<br /> 1-Extent: The first criterion is the extent of the body that should be covered, it is called satr<br />The code of Satr<br /> This is different for men and women.<br />For maleThe extent of covering obligatory on the male is to cover the body at least from the navel to the knees.<br />For women, the extent of covering obligatory is to cover the complete body except the face and the hands up to the wrist.<br />

The Apostle of Allah turned his attention from her.<br /> He said: ‘O Asma',<br />when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this,’ and he pointed to her face and hands." (Sunnan Abu Dawud 32:4092)<br />

  73. 73. Based on the Qur’an and ahadith, most scholars agree that Muslim women should cover their hair and wear outer garments outside the home and in the presence of men whom they would be eligible to marry.<br />
  74. 74. ‘Hijab’ of the clothes should be accompanied by<br /> ‘hijab’ of the eyes<br />, ‘hijab’ of the heart,<br /> ‘hijab’ of thought and<br />‘hijab’ of intention.<br />It also includes the way a person walks, the way a person talks, the way he behaves, etc.<br />
