  19. 19. - It impacted Indian job market a lot. - But, that’s not the only and the biggest cause. - Every country, president has all authority and should work towards best interests of citizens. Foreign Affairs - Trump/Brexit/etc19
  20. 20. - To save jobs, casteism/racism etc. People from UP/Bihar face heat in Mumbai. - People from Eastern Indian states (Sikkim, Arunachal, etc) are mostly troubled in North India, especially Delhi NCR. - Imagine - Professionals from China/etc, coming over to India. Taking our jobs, working on lower salaries, our youth staying unemployed. - I’m sure Indians will not be quite welcoming and merciful. - Thus, blaming other countries is easy, but we need to look inside as well. Foreign Affairs - Are Indians any different?20
  21. 21. Rapidly Changing Technology 21
  22. 22. In last 15 years - Desktop Apps (your machine, C++, Foxpro, VB, VC++) - Typical Client Server (your server/premise, Java, PHP, .NET) - Mobile (Anywhere/BYOD, Android, iOS, HTML5/JS) - SaaS/PaaS/IaaS/Cloud Computing (On your Browsers, Salesforce, AWS, Google) - Big Data / AI / IOT (Intelligent, Self Capable, and Smart Devices) Rapidly Changing Technology22
  23. 23. Companies == Employees Companies get into layoff kind of situations as well. Siebel case study. 23
  24. 24. - Siebel Systems was founded in 1993 by Tom Siebel and Pat House. - Within five years, the company went from little-known startup to a nearly $2 billion a year powerhouse, with 8,000 employees and a market cap of $30 billion. - It was the leader of the CRM market. - In 1999, Siebel Systems was recognized by Deloitte as the “Fastest Growing Company” in U.S. history, with 782,978% growth over five years. Siebel - Journey (the rise)24 Credits : http://fortune.com/2014/01/23/lessons-from-the-death-of-a-tech-goliath/
  25. 25. Siebel - Journey (the fall) - By 2002, the company’s top line had stalled, the stock had fallen to a fraction of its former stratospheric level - On Sept. 12, 2005, Oracle signed a definitive agreement to acquire the company. The transaction was valued at a little more than $6 billion. - On March 1, 2006, Siebel Systems no longer existed as an independent entity, a rather inglorious end to a once unassailable company 25 Credits : http://fortune.com/2014/01/23/lessons-from-the-death-of-a-tech-goliath/
  26. 26. - Salesforce summarily dismantled Siebel through its revolutionary software as a service (SaaS) business model. - Marc Benioff didn’t create the CRM market, but he reimagined how CRM and other business applications could be delivered via a new business model -- software as a service (SaaS). Siebel - Journey & Salesforce26 Credits : http://fortune.com/2014/01/23/lessons-from-the-death-of-a-tech-goliath/
  27. 27. - Blackberry, Nokiafailed to predict Touch and Smartphone wave. - Kodakclosing camera business vs - Teslavs others in automobile sector. - Salesforce partners/customers/developers are on toes with innovations. Other popular case studies27
  28. 28. How can we survive ? 28
  29. 29. ” The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn - Alvin Toffle 29
  30. 30. ”30 I'm continually trying to make choices that put me against my own comfort zone. As long as you're uncomfortable, it means you're growing. - Ashton Kutcher
  31. 31. It’s quite tough, but exciting time. Ability to adapt and work at pace with new generation is challenging. Especially with this rapid changing technology. My past experience matters, but not that much. I witnessed recessions, saw people losing jobs, decade back as well. I’m trying to break my comfort-zone out of those fears. I’m> 35 Yrs31
  32. 32. My Career 32 2000 - 2004 Desktop (C++, VB, VC++) 2013 - 2014 Salesforce + Mobile (iOS, Objective-C, Cocoa) 2008 - 2013 Salesforce, Web (Apex, VF, HTML5/JS) (REST/JSON) 2004 - 2007 Client/Server/Web/Cloud (Java, JEE, HTML/JS) AWS (EC2, SQS, S3..) (SOAP) 2014 - 2016 Salesforce, Web, Mobile (Angular, Ionic, Cordova, Lightning) 2016 …. Salesforce + AI (Einstein, Kafka, Thunder, Lightning)
  33. 33. ▹ Break your comfort-zone, and keep yourself challenged. ▹ Sensing and adapting to changing tech. ▹ Invest time to train and keep yourself updated. ▹ MNC’s look charming, but startups bring best out of you. ▹ Strong Communication skills, quite important as you grow in ladder. ▹ Add ‘Experience in Years’ over ‘Years in Experience’. ▹ Integrity, its last but, surely not the least. Customers, Colleagues, and Employers love to work with honest, accountable and trustworthy professionals. It’s like KARMA goes long way, and comes back for sure. Conclusion33
