  • natural gas or light fuel oil - Natural gas is a gas consisting primarily of methane. It is found associated with fossil fuels, in coal beds Fuel oil is a fraction obtained from petroleum distillation , either as a distillate or a residue. Broadly speaking, fuel oil is any liquid petroleum product that is burned in a furnace or boiler for the generation of heat or used in an engine for the generation of power , diesel is a type of fuel oil. Fuel oil is made of long hydrocarbon chains, particularly alkanes , cycloalkanes and aromatics . The term fuel oil is also used in a stricter sense to refer only to the heaviest commercial fuel that can be obtained from crude oil , heavier than gasoline and naphtha .

Gas power Plant <ul><li>Air is taken from the atmosphere , compressed, heated (usually by combustion of fuel in the air) and expanded in the turbine. </li></ul><ul><li>Gases coming out of the turbine are exhausted in the air. </li></ul><ul><li>Used in emergency and when there is peak demand. </li></ul><ul><li>Fossil fuels such as gasoline, natural gas etc are used as fuel </li></ul>
    3. 4. Diesel Engine <ul><li>It is an internal combustion engine that uses the heat of compression to initiate ignition to burn the fuel, which is injected into the combustion chamber. </li></ul><ul><li>Diesel engines are manufactured in two stroke and four stroke versions. </li></ul>

Diesel Engines <ul><li>Used to drive the prime mover of electric generators </li></ul><ul><li>Used as a stand-by set for start up of auxiliaries in steam and gas power plants </li></ul><ul><li>Used for emergency supply to hospitals, hotels, factories and in other commercial units. </li></ul>
    6. 7. Advantages: <ul><li>High operating efficiency. </li></ul><ul><li>Need very little water for cooling. </li></ul><ul><li>Quick start and stop is possible. </li></ul><ul><li>Easier handling of fuel. </li></ul>
