Design of a TV studio , May2,2010(Under the guidance of a consultancy company)<br />This project was undertaken by the team of consultants for the design of a TV studio in the centre of the city, where traffic noise was the main concern. Constraints while designing the acoustics were enormous as the space was already constructed. It took approximately 8 months for the completion of entire project. During this period, site visits were conducted to keep an eye on workmanship. <br />The entire report is written, stating the causes and their solutions which also include Measurement data. In addition to that, execution report is updated which includes details of every site visits done.<br /> <br />

Different designs of a studio for the same dimensions, March 1 2009(Under the guidance of SAE Audio and Acoustics faculty)<br />This manual is designed to explain how various designs can be implemented on given one dimension.<br />The acoustic treatment of every design is different. Studio design is made such a way that it serves the purpose of Music Production.<br />There are four primary goals of acoustic treatment:<br />To prevent standing waves and acoustic interference from affecting the frequency response of recording studios and listening rooms; <br /> To reduce modal ringing in small rooms and lower the reverb time in larger studios, churches, and auditoriums; <br /> To absorb or diffuse sound in the room to avoid ringing and flutter echoes, and improve stereo imaging; and <br />To keep sound from leaking into or out of a room. <br /> <br />The manual was checked and evaluated by Audio and acoustics department of SAE, Chennai (India )<br />
  4. 4. Drawbacks of different designs for the open air theatre(s), April 27 2010<br />This paper work highlights the effect of design of an open air theatre on acoustics. Small change in the design can change the mathematics of acoustic parameters.<br />Based on facts, certain points were highlighted to correct the acoustics.<br />Open air theatres has different perception towards acoustics as compared to other enclosed spaces. You cannot enter and start speaking about Reverberation time and echo in all the cases. Scope of acoustics for such theatres is very limited and very tricky indeed.<br /> <br />The paperwork will give a brief idea regarding same<br /> <br />

Architecture of the church(Under the guidance of a consultancy company)<br />Volume of the sanctuary is approximately 12500 cubic meters.<br />Area of the Major curved ceiling is app 850 square meters.<br /> <br /> Ceiling of the church is a main concern. Architect has proposed an In-bend ceiling (concave).<br /> Sound travels very well around the curve of the wall. The other is that sound that starts from a location out somewhere in front of the curve gets reflected back to a focal point, something like a magnifying glass. The location of that focal point moves around, depending on where the sound source moves or is located. Refocused echoes are very loud at the focal point and when you hear it, the sound seems to come from some mysterious place, some odd direction which usually does not make any sense.<br /> <br /> My report includes Calculation of Reverberation time, Sound pressure levels (SPL) in the present scenario of church. The idea is to suggest architects, to keep the figures in mind while proposing a design for the churches.<br />

Acoustics of the music room(Under the guidance of a consultancy company)<br />Theoretical Facts<br />The primary acoustic goals for a Music Room is prevention of flutter, harshness and excessive reverberant field.<br />Additionally, special attention needs to be paid to low frequency sound control so the room does not suffer from tonal imbalance or ‘boominess’.<br />For listening and performing rooms, a more diffuse field will provide a better warmth for big listening environment.<br />The recommended Reverberation time for the music room is 0.7 seconds.<br /> <br />The report was made mentioning the acoustic treatment provided and the simulation results. Certain designs were considered and the simulation drawings for the corresponding room design were included.<br /> <br />
  7. 7. Utilization of a space (Under the guidance of a consultancy company)<br />At the time of designing , the architecture designed the space not understanding its utilization. Later, we were consulted to convert a big echo hall to a meeting room.<br /> <br />Theoretical Facts<br />At the present condition, Volume of the space not at all allows a comfortable speech Intelligibility. <br />Killing bad reflections and Controlling Reverberation Time are the two different aspects.<br />Keeping in mind, the application of the space, The first important thing is to Control Echoes.<br />The existing reverberation Time is around 6 Seconds.<br /> This report includes certain designs which has helped Sound intelligibility and clarity factor to reduce. All the simulation drawings are also added in the report.<br /> <br /> <br />
