Abstract
Since I decided to teach a kindergarten class for my unit plan, I chose to teach a lesson on
counting to ten. My unit plan will also include all the aspects that go along with fully
understanding the concept of counting. One aspect being the understanding that each number
represents a certain amount. To start off, the first day will be all about grasping counting to ten in
general. This meaning, I will make sure the students can count to ten using their fingers. Then I
will focus more on what each number represents. Following this the students will learn to write
the numbers. This concept of how to represent numbers on paper is important. Next the students
will count groups of objects. During this lesson the students will combine their knowledge of
representing numbers on paper as well as with objects. This will help the students to see a bigger
picture in how counting plays a role in their education. On the final day, the students will be
evaluated by creating their own counting poster that uses all the aspect taught throughout the
week. The technology used during this unit plan will be most effective for the students to grasp
each concept they will learn. There will also be information available for parents and children
who want some extra practice on these concepts, outside of class.
