  2. 2. <ul><li>As part of PHC- the Department of Health advocate the use of the following 10 herbal plants that is indigenous to tropical countries </li></ul><ul><li>R.A. 8423 – Traditional and alternative medicine </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Scientific name: Blumea Balsamefera </li></ul><ul><li>1. Uses: Anti-edema, Diuretic, anti-urolithiasis </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Chopped laves are boiled in a glass of water for 15 minutes. Drink one part 3x a day </li></ul><ul><li>2. Diarrhea </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Same as above and drink one part every 3 hours </li></ul>
  4. 6. <ul><li>S.N. Cassia, Alata L. </li></ul><ul><li>1. Uses: Anti-fungal ( Tinea Flava, ringworm, athlete’s foot and scabies) </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Fresh matured leaves are pounded. Apply soap to the affected area </li></ul>
  5. 8. <ul><li>S.N. Quisqualis indica </li></ul><ul><li>1. Uses: Anti-helmetic </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- The seeds are taken 2 hours after supper. If no worms are expelled, the dose may be repeated after one week </li></ul>
  6. 9. <ul><li>S.N. Carmona retusa </li></ul><ul><li>1. Uses: Stomachache </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Chopped leaves are boiled in 1 glass of water for 15 minutes. Cool, filter and strain </li></ul>
  7. 10. <ul><li>S.N. Mamordica charantia </li></ul><ul><li>1. Uses: Diabetes Mellitus ( mild non-insulin dependent), lower blood cholesterol </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- chopped leaves get the juice (about 6 tablespoons) boiled it in 2 glasses of water for 15 mins. Take 1/3 cup 3x a day after meal </li></ul>
  8. 13. <ul><li>S.N.-Vitex negundo </li></ul><ul><li>1. Uses: Asthma, cough and fever; Dysentry, colds and pain </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Decoction- Boil raw fruits or leaves for 15 mins; Decoction- boil a handful of leaves and flower to produce a glass of water, drink 3x a day </li></ul>
  9. 15. <ul><li>2. uses: Skin disease ( dermatitis, scabies, ulcer, eczema & wounds ) </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- wash and clean the skin/ wound with the prepared decoction of leaves </li></ul><ul><li>3. use in Headache </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Crush leaves then apply on forehead </li></ul>
  10. 16. <ul><li>4. uses: Rheumatism, sprain, contusion and insect bites </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation-Pound leaves and apply on affected areas </li></ul><ul><li>5. Use as aromatic bath </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- for sick and patient undergo operation ( wash or bath- if indicated) </li></ul>
  11. 18. <ul><li>S.N. Peperonia pellucida </li></ul><ul><li>1. Use Lowers uric acid level in rheumatism and gout </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- One and half cup of leaves are boiled in 2 glasses of water. Drink 1 part 3x a day </li></ul>
  12. 21. <ul><li>Garlic </li></ul><ul><li>1. Use in Hypertension- </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- may be fried, soaked in vinegar for 30 mins or blanched in boiled water for 15 mins. </li></ul><ul><li>2. Use in toothache </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Pound a small leaves and apply to affected areas </li></ul>
  13. 22. <ul><li>S.N. Psidium guajava L </li></ul><ul><li>1. use for washing the wounds </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- decoction-boil the leaves for 10 mins. Water is use to wash the wounds 2-3x a day </li></ul><ul><li>2. for diarrhea- may be taken 3-4 x a day </li></ul><ul><li>3. mouthwash and to relieve toothache </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- chopped leaves boiled for 15 mins. Warm decoction is used for gargle. Freshly pounded leaves are use for toothache </li></ul>
  14. 24. <ul><li>S.N. Mentha cordifelia </li></ul><ul><li>1. for pain- ( headache and stomache) </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- chopped leaves are boiled in2 glasses for 15 mins. Drink one part every 3 hrs </li></ul><ul><li>2. Rheumatism, arthritis and headache </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Crush leaves and squeeze sap. Massage sap on painful parts w/ eucalyptus </li></ul>
  15. 27. <ul><li>3. Cough and colds </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Soak 10 fresh leaves in hot water. Drink as a tea </li></ul><ul><li>4. Swollen gums- </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation- Steep 6 g. of fresh leaves in a glass of boiling water for 30 mins. Use the solution to rinse mouth </li></ul><ul><li>5. Toothache </li></ul><ul><li>Preparation get a sap, put it inside a clean cloth then insert it to the cavity </li></ul>
  16. 28. <ul><li>6. Menstrual and gas pain- Soak handful of leaves in a glass of boiling water, drink the infusion </li></ul><ul><li>7. Nausea and Fainting- crush leaves and put it on the nosetrils </li></ul><ul><li>8. Insect bites- crush the leaves and apply juice on the affected area </li></ul><ul><li>9. Pruritis- decoction- boil plant alone or with eucalyptus </li></ul>
