  1. 1. Milad BIRTH OF THOUGHT Introduction This book addresses, within its epistemological context, the definition of the human instinct theory that accommodates in its description to the science of human soul components between (sensible) emotional motives and tangible physical factors (As a scientific trajectory for its content and an epistemological framework for the conscience functioning within it). It adopts a unique epistemological approach driven by a deeply rooted human intellect. All this has been compiled in a book that emphasizes the significance of ethical motives in providing a definition for ethical concepts and cultural composites in its moral concord between the scientific content and the practical reality. As well as a scientific measurement and an ethical criterion, whose impact extends to cover the material production and regulatory legislation, which is connected to the human and social dimension in epistemological production and cultural movement. It is intended for providing a profound understanding to the human value in its plural form Values, by defining the human instinct theory, which is considered in its comprehensive component as an epistemological description for the human soul constituents in its interaction between spirit, mind and body. As well as the activity of its sensual, moral and physical functions, adopting a unique epistemological approach motivated by a deeply rooted human intellect, which could contribute to originating of moderate human intellect in its core. As well as proven epistemological data that weigh up, in its assessment to what is beneficial and/or harmful, between the emotional motives and physical factors. While reconciling, in its moral approaches, between the value of the legacies and the effectiveness of addressing the scientific results and absolute necessity, emphasizing that life in terms of its sciences variables and necessities of its living represents variant concepts over ages and times. This will in turn move the divine scriptures from its stagnation toward balanced epistemological data and creative moral concepts that come, in terms of its approaches, in line with the individual’s basic rights in the modern science. While this can be addressed through comparison, contiguity and reconciliation between the divine scriptures and modern science in its epistemological findings, adopting balanced epistemological and rational human thought (collecting findings and reconciling approaches), for the purpose of comparing intents and reconciling outcomes. Thus, it becomes like the nucleus accommodating human intellect and culture, with what extends from which and annexes to it according to a scientific basis and moral agreement that contribute to addressing the deficiency in comprehending the divine scriptures and/or any defect in the outcomes of the modern science. The balanced human intellect- in its epistemological data with the components of human soul in its interaction between spirit, mind and body, as well as the activity of its sensual, moral and physical functions- is a sort of respect for human dignity and self-immunity for the mind against superstitions and deviant and/or extremist intellectual interactions. This represents the end of the divine religions teachings through its basic universals, which are based upon the pillars of (mercy, justice and good manners). It is worth noting that all the contents of this book, including the acquired epistemological findings that bear scientific measurements and ethical criteria for identification and criticism based on an objective approach. As well as what it introduces as the product of strenuous and industrious work whose findings were gathered within a period of about fifteen years of intensive research and specialized contributions in intellectual studies, to which the author holds all the rights. Author: Salman Bin Muhammad Al-Olayan, Founder and Director of Jawab International Organization for Human Intellect and Culture. A Book that describes you when you read it !
  2. 2. Opening for the Book Man is born on instinct …”with no knowledge, as Allah said in the Holy Qur’an: “And Allah has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing.” (16/78). Also, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in the Hadith: “No child is born but upon Fitra (Instinct),...to the end of Hadith. (Sahih Bukhari). This piece of information, in its literature and manifestations in man’s life, will be an approach for science in its origin and a base for knowledge since its birth. Thus, man is an inborn creature in terms of its origin, good-looking, articulate and sensible; and at their birth, man born is naked, hungry and needs food to survive, and clothing to cover their body. However, stating from that moment, we realize that the human (value) in its plural form (values) is all about food (As a physical factor) and clothing (as an ethical motive). This is how human sciences and knowledge come into existence in its epistemological data on emotional motives and physical factors, which represent most of man’s life, in their sensation, feeling and thinking. In addition to what goes around them and influences their life, as man becomes between rights and treatment (As a value from which values are derived), namely, in understanding and dealing with it. Man is a value from which values are derived… In view of this epistemological approach in its primary axioms, we recognize the components of human soul in its interaction between spirit, mind and body (The activity of its sensory, moral and physical functions). Since the ethical motives (as embodied in clothing) are the abode of spirit in its sentimental stimulants and what is involved within it; and the physical factors (as embodied in food) are the orbit of the body in its physical needs and what is relevant to it. We realize, at this point, that science, in its comprehensive and broad knowledge, is (Two sciences) no third to them: Moral: which includes, in its ethical motives and human knowledge, language in terms of its pronunciation and orthography, and all what is related to religious legacies, social customs and traditions, art, literatures and acquired knowledge including theories, concepts and composites that constitute general culture in its ultimate characteristics and signs of its symbols. Scientific: which includes all what is related to physical factors, including sciences, knowledge, discoveries, systems, works, theories and financial and industrial capabilities (in terms of food and clothing), commercial and agricultural, besides, all that is related to old and modern physical factors. Consequently, in order for the mind to perform its supreme functions and chief role in balancing between ethical motives and physical factors in man’s life (as a center for information, comprehension, assimilation, production, will and management). It requires proven epistemological data, which are based, in its moral agreement and comprehensive scientific approaches between the divine knowledge and acquired knowledge, upon the components of human soul science in its interaction and activity of its sensual, moral and physical functions. Hence, the ethical motive has come for the purpose of defining the human instinct theory in its description to the human soul components science:
  3. 3. As instinct is the sound nature with self-integrity in which the components of human soul, in its interaction and activity of its functions, are balanced. The relationship between spirit, mind and body is a sentimental relationship and a natural interaction within its orbit all divine directives revolve so as to develop the human instinct on which man is born. The basis of this definition, in its scientific approaches, which can harmonize between the origin of the divine knowledge in its intent and the truthfulness of the acquired knowledge in its outcomes; with a moral concord that extends through its sciences’ outcomes to cover all realms of life. And which could be considered a description of the components of human soul science in its interaction and activity of its sensual, moral and physical functions. As an evident science and firm asset through which all ethical legislations and principles, in its instructions from the divine knowledge and the acquired knowledge (The inherited and the modern) could be understood; either through the scientific result or the deterministic necessity, which address the reality of life in its sciences’ variables and necessities of its living. This, however, affirms that the components of human soul science, in its interaction and activity of its functions, is an established asset and an enduring root, with respect to all that is related to man and what could be cause and effect to him in all his words and actions, academic and practical life affairs as well. Thus, the definition of the human instinct theory, in the roots of its premises and the extension of its sciences that accommodate human principles and ethical values, becomes the impetus for the supplemental theories: ▪ The integrated economy theory ▪ The reciprocal contribution theory In addition to what could be extension for it and connected to its sciences’ outcomes of comprehensive concepts: ▪ Cultural distinction concept ▪ Moral agreement concept ▪ Epistemological contest concept ▪ Reconciling culture concept These universal theories and comprehensive concepts can contribute to the harmonization of ethical legislations and principles between the origin of the divine scriptures and the truthfulness of the acquired knowledge with the scientific outcomes and deterministic necessity. Adopting a unique epistemological approach driven by a deeply rooted human thought that establishes the scientific measurements and ethical criteria to provide a definition for theories, concepts and composites in a way that reconcile, within ethical legislations and principles, between the significance of the inherited and the effectiveness of the modern. By the way of comparison, contiguity and treatment upon a solid basis and firm knowledge that could maintain the origin and cope up with the modern age without impenetrability that besieges the cultural identity or dependency that melts it. While adopting a human thought that balances between the emotional motives and physical factors, based upon epistemological data that originate for a moderate intellect through a firm and authentic science, which has its own scientific approaches and moral determinants using balanced epistemological data that differentiate between its two sides (right and left) and does not sway between both of them.
  4. 4. In view of this, the human intellect, which is balanced in its epistemological data with the components of human soul in its interaction between spirit, mind and body, as well as the activity of its sensual, moral and physical functions, is defined as “respect for human dignity and self-immunity for mind against myths and deviant or extremist intellectual exchanges. However, this balanced opening can be deemed as a starting point for the cultural dialogue in its scientific approach and moral agreement. As the moral agreement, in its ethical motives, is considered amongst the main scientific approaches in reconciling ethical legislations between the divine knowledge in its intent and the acquired knowledge in the truthfulness of its findings “adopting a human thought that balances between emotional motives and physical factors. In view of this, the basic universals for its lawful intents- in its main pillars (mercy, justice and good manners)- are the inclusive reference for human principles and broad ethical values for the human instinct aspects in its description to the components of the human soul in its interaction and activity of its functions, are the main scientific approach in its moral concord to reconciling between the Islamic teachings with its five pillars and the basic rights of the individual in its five components. As Allah said in the Holy Qur’an: “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (21:107) And also Allah said: “and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness.” (5:8) And the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “I was sent to perfect good character.”As the completion is connected to what preceded it and interacted with what is new to it. Since life, in its epistemological data, is just tools and concepts that differ from an age to another, according to the variables of its sciences and necessities of its living; which in turn emphasizes that life has changing concepts (But for that reason the divine religions never came in different forms while the message is the same). And the humanity would have remained in its verbal expression on the same language of their first father Adam. Also, the moral concepts and cultural composites are based in its definition on a scientific measurement that reconciles, in its ethical motives, between the scientific content and the practical reality. Values is the plural form of value| and in which man is a value from which values are derived; so, if the human value is underestimated, in terms of rights, the ethical values in dealings shall be undermined: as a direct outcome and an inherent relationship that never deviate from its content and never separate from its reality. Thus, the relation father: in case it is degraded, the value shall be reduced and the values shall lose its balance (and here freedom is behavior), and behavior is a freedom that comes into existence as an outcome of cultural awareness; and the higher the awareness level, the higher the freedom ceiling is, and consequently, the reverse is right. Values is the plural form of value| and there are no values in what has no value in it As values, in its ethical system, consist of a group of inherited factors that overlap with the acquired epistemological outcomes. Whosoever wanted to keep ethical values in dealings, he/ she would have to develop human value in terms of rights; and any tradition or custom with
  5. 5. no value in it, it will not have values in it| then, how it will be if it underestimates value and infringes values. Moreover, how will you protect a value it ignored without reviewing the way it deals with everything based on value, while it abolishes its content? This applies also to those who degrade woman’s dignity and try to confiscate their rights: while claiming through their inverse understanding that has been endorsed for the side of customs and traditions, after cladding most of it with worship disguise by the way of prejudice and fanaticism; while claiming that in doing so, they are protecting and safeguarding her dignity! As Allah said in the Holy Qur’an: “He hides himself from the people because of the ill of which he has been informed. Should he keep it in humiliation or bury it in the ground? Unquestionably, evil is what they decide.” (16:59) Upbringing, then, is a great responsibility and a burdened duty that is based upon epistemological data and ethical factors, which require established wisdom blended with awareness, patience, deliberation and merciful treatment (including the household management through negotiation between the husband and wife), with due skills that consider the psychological aspects “sensually, morally and physically”. With respect to the requirements and necessities of life and what it entails of academic aspirations and artistic and recreational practices (including practical skills development), in addition to enhancing epistemological capabilities at the moral and cultural levels. Therefore, it is not just caring for providing food and clothing (Despite its significance), but it is unwise to be limited to securing the living necessities and neglecting the upbringing, moral and academic aspects. As many parents rely on the social environment, with all it embraces of behaviors and practices related to cultural legacies and traditions, some of which degrade human value and infringe ethical values. The Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), “All of you are guardians and are responsible for your households.”, demonstrates the importance of the upbringing aspect in taking the responsibility of care, with its sensual, moral and physical implications. This can be done by instilling the ethical values that encompass the human value in behavior and practices, and defining what infringes or degrades it. Since the parents whose children have lived with them for 18 years without instilling a value in their minds or values in their hearts, and which they could originate in their personalities and consciences with no coercive compulsion. While leaving them to the surrounding environment guiding them to where the path might lead, or adopting the excessive intimidation and violent treatment, will end up with parents blaming themselves if their children disobeyed and rebelled against them, or requested protection due to their maltreatment (The infringer shall deserve loss). However, this important and extremely ramified subject requires prolonged explanation between raising awareness, programs and legislation. Notwithstanding, in comparison with the Western (modern) culture, in terms of family and upbringing aspect, we can find that the expansion of its fundamentalist civil system in its understanding to responsibilities and obligations, as far as family is concerned, has resulted in infringements and violations that threaten its stability. As well as their continuation in the excessive intervention in pretext of protecting the weak side with evident imbalance, which in turn results in undermining the emotional cohesion and structure amongst the family members, threatening and jeopardizing its solidarity.
  6. 6. One of the weirdest issues ever (What is called the Same-Sex Marriage), and how shameful it is for humanity and a blatant ethical setback in human principles. However, if we referred to the UN Charter on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that it is based on the human instinct. Thus, we say to those who call for the humanity setback through their call for (Same-Sex-Marriage), what sort of instinct is it while the charter, upon which it is based, abolishes it entirely?! Hence, it becomes clear that the extremist Right versus the fundamentalist Left have their interest converged in the body, the Right, then, has adopted the coercive restriction of the body, (while the Left has proceeded with its absolute emancipation based upon futile legislations), without epistemological balance between emotional motives and physical factors. Moreover, here we can conclude that the fundamentalist Left is a counterpart to the extremist Right in its damage and infringement…! In view of this subject and through these moderate epistemological outcomes in its equilibrium with a balanced human intellect between motives and factors. Thus, we call for the adversaries (i.e. the conservative Right and the liberal Left), in their dispute, to reconsider their positions so as to correct the path and address some problems, which apparently infringe and violate their moderation respecting that. That could be attained by adopting an epistemological ground based upon the definition of human instinct theory in its description to the components of human soul through its interaction and activity of its functions; and which is considered the meeting point for the dispute’s parties in terms of understanding some ethical legislations and correcting them. The balanced human thought that gather between the sources in a moral concord that employs data and reconciles between the approaches. Hence, language acquires a pivotal significance in terms of the clarity of its articulation, eloquence of its expression, rhetoric of its figures and depth of its vocabulary meanings in a manner that enriches its epistemological connotations abundantly and clearly from the moral aspect. Taking into consideration the proofs in variables science, its definition and range of its radical impact in man’s life and what that means in terms of concepts and developments. As well as its effect on mind with respect to its mental and epistemological capabilities; in order to realize that the variance of the divine religions, though the message is one, is just because of the difference of life’s concepts in terms of its sciences’ variables and necessities of its living. This, hence, emphasizes the significance of adopting it in understanding teachings and laws and the range of its effect on man’s life within its existing reality. It is the universal tradition of the nature of life in its sciences’ variables and necessities of its living, which we can conclude its epistemological signals in Surat “The Cave” in the Holy Qur’an; and but for that reason the divine religions would never be different while the message is the same. In view of that, the epistemological investigation on the essence of existence and the fact behind the sentimental conflict between emotional motives and physical factors in its moral assessment between usefulness and harm. And also an ethical criterion between good and evil, as an epistemological outcome for the human soul components science in terms of interaction between spirit, mind and body; as well as the activity of its sensual, moral and physical functions .
  7. 7. These scientific findings, in its epistemological roots, are deemed an extension to the definition of human instinct theory in its description to the human soul components science in its interaction and activity of its functions. As it includes in its approaches and references of sciences and human knowledge within the divine religions and international covenants and traditions, with a moral agreement that accommodates both the divine knowledge in its intent and the truthfulness of the acquired knowledge in its outcomes. (In a way that contributes to the attainment of harmony in moral approaches with its inclusive concepts that express its age’s culture which is in line with the basic rights in its constituents). As well as adopting a human thought that balance between the importance of the legacies and the effectiveness of the modern, without constraint that besieges identity and/or dependence that melts it. However, any moral concept or cultural composite should be viewed from all different aspects and attitudes with its various angles, in order not to infringe a vital aspect of life’s aspects due to the absence of information that emphasizes or refers to its connection and impact with it both positively and negatively. This requires the development of a scientific base that could be a measurement and criterion for defining concepts and composites, as well as the extent of its reflection, both directly and indirectly, on the ethical legislations and statutory procedures, taking into account its influence on general culture. Each structure has a foundation | Just as each plant has roots Science is a plant and a structure | It has foundation and roots, and it cannot be attained by partial selection or exaggerating in explanation or questioning; and upon that authentic scientific foundation and the prudent epistemological approach, the scales are placed to rectify concepts between words and actions. However, due to the significance of concepts in building general culture and its direct and indirect relationship with ethical legislations and principles in terms of penal procedures and judicial judgments, (and the extent of its importance and impact on man’s life in all fields), and how not, while life is just about changing concepts: ”The assessment of ethical motive, which reconciles between the scientific content and practical reality in defining theories, concepts and composites, is considered one of the proven ethical criteria in its equilibrium.” The term Concepts is derived from comprehension, which means that it is considered one of the mind’s tools, in terms of its basic knowledge, for understanding matters and assessment of things. Moreover, concepts, in its ethical motives, is deemed as an epistemological product by which life is brought back to the variables of its sciences and its living necessities; and this refers us to knowledge both as a meaning and definition. The moral agreement is in motives and approaches; and the epistemological contest lies in definition and interpretations. However, in order to address knowledge and definition |the impetus of the produced thought | We should define knowledge then. Knowledge Definition: The outcome that brings about benefit or eliminates harm (either moral or physical) either scientific or practical.
  8. 8. Knowledge is based upon the definition of comprehending matters and realizing things | Whatsoever is not defined, cannot be known, As it becomes clear that the definition is the basis of knowledge, approach of science and source of intellect| and amongst the criteria of judging things is to know it; and whosoever deals with something unknown to him/her | is like a person who judges something of which he/she is ignorant! Intellect, then, is the product of defined information received by the mind with a free action, through which a view or theory emerges as a result (it provides him/her with a specific image for things), and this image is either partial or complete, correct or defective due to its flawed structure originally. Thus, intellect comes as a result of the mind’s function in its comprehension and assimilation of what it receives of defined information, as a center for will and management. As well as a scale that reconciles in its outcomes- and what it concludes- between emotional motives and physical capabilities with an epistemological sense that connects the sentimental relationship and instinctive interaction between spirit, mind and body. Also, in all what the human soul acts a cause and effect, in terms of words, actions, systems and dealings that shape man’s environment and general surroundings. In view of the above, intellect in its epistemological data and ethical motives that gather between sources and reconcile attitudes in a moral agreement based upon three essential factors: - Language in its sciences; - Principles in its universals; and - Variables in its reality. Here, the significance of language, as a well-grounded science, manifests in the roots of identity; and how important it is from the moral aspect in terms of its epistemological production, through the rhetoric of its images, the eloquence of its meanings, the enrichment of its vocabulary and the clarity of its connotations from the epistemological aspect. While not just being limited to the meanings of its linguistic vocabularies, from the kinetic aspect for manner and position. With the absence of epistemological value of moral concepts within the text context; and amongst foundations, references, approaches, determinants, measurements and criteria “lies intellect.” Hence, human beings, in their formation and the assessment of its evaluation, are based upon two main values: - The moral value - The physical value Moreover, sciences and human knowledge are contained in these two values, and from which values, collectively, are derived (while mind is balanced in realizing it as a third value); people vary, with respect to it, in attaining its fact and reaching its objectives and ends. As the conscious mind, in its supreme function as a core for will and management, and absorbent of information in its understanding and benefiting from it, is based upon the rule of equilibrium between ethical motives and physical capabilities (through its understanding, analysis, decision and production). At this point, the importance of what mind receives of proven and evident epistemological data that realize the essence of human soul formation, through the interaction of its components between spirit, mind and body; as well as the activity of its sensual, moral and physical functions.
  9. 9. Thus, if knowledge, in its definition, is the outcome that brings about benefit and eliminates harm, either moral or physical and/or academic or practical, the projection of the tolerant and moderate Islamic teachings on the science of human soul components in its interaction and activity of its functions (as well as what life entails in terms of its sciences variables and necessities of its living) is considered amongst the consistent epistemological sources in ethical legislations and principles, with its scientific realm and epistemological enrichment. However, this depends on gathering its data and comprehending its approaches- which are based upon language in the depth of its rhetoric, elucidation of its eloquence, clarity of its meanings and abundance of its vocabularies, which are correlated with the depth of the divine knowledge in the origin of its principles and teachings that are capable of reconciling them with its age’s concepts. These concepts that extend from the past with the accumulation of its knowledge that encompasses its principles and values, which focus on human instinct in its description to the science of human soul components in its interaction between spirit, mind and body; and the activity of its sensual, moral and physical functions.
