What does your film opening say about ..

  1. 1. - Personally, I think my film opening is suggesting that mentalillness is developed at a young age.- It reinforces the representation of teenagers always havingreally dramatic issues because this is the problematic stage oftheir lives.- It also suggests that some teenagers are outcasts in thesense that they never fit in, they are constantly excluded fromgroups and are looked down on by others.
  2. 2. - My film opening suggests that males are morelikely to suffer from mental illness.– This therefore singles them out in the same wayas mental illness sufferers.- Reinforces the representation of males as peoplewho always keep their thoughts and feelings tothemselves. – Link into the mind.- Reinforces the representation of males beingimmature in comparison to females.-The fact that I have chosen to use a male as thevictim challenges the forms and conventions ofpsychological thrillers.http://www.cliffsnotes.com/study_guide/Gender-Stereotypes.topicArticleId-26957,articleId-26896.html – Gender stereotypes.
  3. 3. - It could also suggest that people only believe in Godwhen they are in need of help.- I also feel that with my film opening being about mentalillness but I’ve included a reference to religion that it couldalso suggest that religion can get into your mind andcontrol you in the same way as a mental illness.
  4. 4. I have made the assumptionthat.. mostly males will take aninterest in the film. This hasreflected in my work as Idecided to cast a male for therole of the protagonist.I have made the assumptionthat.. Mostly teenagers will beinteresting in a film that coversthis topic. This has reflected in my workas the protagonist is 18, I feltthat it was important that theprotagonist wasn’t older than18 as it would give the viewer aconvincing and more genuineportrayal of someone of thatage suffering fromSchizophrenia.
