Formal proposal

  1. 1. Formal ProposalIllegal Downloading Laura Mason
  2. 2. Genre The genre of our documentary will be a dramadocumentary. This is the most appropriate genre for our chosen topic and will be best for our target audience. For our documentary we chose to use the expository mode. This mode addresses the viewer directly to create an argument. The narrator is off-screen and central to the documentary and raises one point of view. We covered all these main requirements to make sure we stuck to the mode we had chosen.
  3. 3. Target AudienceOur chosen target audience is teenagers and young adults aged between 13 and 24 as people this age are most likely to participate in illegal downloading. We have focused on both boys and girls as they would download equally. The audience would be in college or a have a job as downloading would bethe quicker option to going out and buying. They’d be frequentusers of computers, mobile phones and music devices as illegal downloading is easily accessible on these devices and this agerange would use them all the time. They will also be music fans and like to attend concerts and festivals to see their favourite acts live; therefore spending money on this rather than cd’s or legal downloads. We have aimed at no specific race as it is atopic that affects everyone and to tackle this we have shown a range of races in our documentary. Again, we have no specific location target as it is a worldwide issue and the documentary would be relatable to many people around the world.
  4. 4. Chosen Channels The channel we have chosen to air our documentary on id BBC Three. This is a channel that regularly shows relevant and gripping documentaries –as thisis what we are hoping ours will be- and so will be the perfect channel for our product. There viewers arewithin our target range and BBC Three have some of the highest ratings out of all the channels.
  5. 5. We chose to air the radio trailer on BBC Radio 1 asthis is the most current and relevant radio station and would be listened to by a large percentage of our target audience: it is also related to the station that we would play the documentary on. Radio 1 also hasthe largest amount of listeners compared to any radiostation. It broadcasts to a total amount of 52,352,000adults a year and is listen to by 11091000 people each week with each listen tuning in for an average of 6.9 hours a week.
  6. 6. TV & Satellite is not perhaps the most popular listingsmagazine but it does have a wide fan base. It is readby 1887000 adults a year and dominates 3.7% of the population who read these magazines. This was notwhy we chose the magazine but because of its use ofbright colours and layout. It has many different types of articles in it, from real life stories to advertising programmes and therefore reaches to a wider audience because of its breadth of content.
