Les objets connectés raccordent les différents maillons de la distribution d’énergie à l’Internet of Things. Le transport de l’énergie engendre la création d’un flux de méta-données concernant la provenance et la nature de l’énergie, le consommateur et l’usage. Les acteurs traditionnels du secteur de l’énergie pensent que la disruption numérique s’effectue au niveau des smart-grids, et espèrent optimiser la distribution pour réduire leur facture énergétique. Mais des nouveaux entrants attaquent ce secteur par les deux extrémités de la chaîne de valeur et ont pour objectif commun de réduire la facture des particuliers et les émissions de CO2.
