North, 124° 47' East, in the island of
Leyte. Elevation at these coordinate’s

HISTORY OF JARO
SALUG SINIRUNGAN AND BONSILAO 1810
The town of Jaro was formerly
known as "Salug," because of its
proximity to the Cabayongan
River, which historically cuts
through it.
There were two Leyteos who were
known for their bravery and skill at
using their native weapons in battle.
These were identified as Sinirungan of
Dagami and Bonsilao of Ormoc. The
people believed that these two men
possessed supernatural powers, and
they were able to drive the Moros
away.
The area became a municipality
in 1810 wherein the word "Haro"
eventually spread among the
populace and started to be used
to refer to the location. When the
Spanish arrived, "Haro" was
transcribed as "Jaro."
