Pitch

  1. 1. Initial Pitch
  2. 2. ConceptsMy magazine will be a magazine which will focus onmainly rock and metal music containing a front cover, contents page and double page spread. My magazine willgo up against existing magazines Kerrang and MetalHammer. In my opinion, the publishers Bauer Media andFuture Publishing respectively are staring to becomeoutdated with their releases, and for years, have hadabsolute dominance within the field of rock and metalmusic magazines. I feel that it is time for a change ofmagazine company dominance within this category andmy magazine will look at the genre of rock and metal in adifferent and more interesting manner, making it appeal toa teenage audience.
  3. 3. Masthead possible ideas Touch the sound Collision Destruction Freak on a leash Wasteland RiotI have decided on using these particular fonts as they are all related to the genre ofmy music magazine. These fonts all vary and are examples of different colourschemes and font style. They include serif and sans serif font.
  4. 4. Magazines similar to mine… In terms of magazines which are similar to mine, rock and metal magazines Metal Hammer and Kerrang! are the two magazines which share most similar aspects to my magazine. As well as sharing the same focus on genre, both Kerrang and Metal Hammer alike share a fairly similar price range to my magazine- one which is not particularly expensive as the target audience is late teenagers. In addition, the magazines also have a very cluttered and busy front cover with bright and vivid colours. The over exaggerated and fulfilled content of the magazine attracts readers to buy the magazine and can be used as a tool for reader attraction.
  5. 5. PriceIn terms of price, my magazine will have to be cheap sothat it is affordable for the late teenage target audience. Inaddition to this, I must make sure that the magazine has asuitable amount of content within so that the magazine isof good value for money and does not un-attract potentialbuyers and or readers of the magazine. The price of themagazine will be around the range of £2-£3. Myquestionnaire results show that my audience will be willingto buy a magazine of this price as they feel this is an idealprice for a magazine.
  6. 6. Target AudienceThe target audience for my particular magazine will be late teenagers. The magazine will feature a main focus onto the male gender also. Ihave chosen to place the focus upon the male gender predominantly formy magazine as I feel that mainly, the male gender are more associatedwith the rock and metal genre of music which is the core focus of mymagazine. The content of the magazine I create will not be particularlyover analytical as I want the content to still be interesting andunderstandable to the teenage main audience. The pieces contained inthe magazine will vary with each week to week release. I have chosen tochange some of the forms of content each week as by doing this, it willengage my audience with new types of stories and idea, whilst alsogarnishing their attention still. In terms of those outside of my target audience, I feel I will still be able toattract many customers outside of the range of the target audience asmy magazine will always try to have different types of story and conceptsall the time, therefore, my audience will always play the guessing gameof what will feature next.
  7. 7. PublishingIn terms of publishing for music magazine, I will bechoosing publishing company Haymarket to publish mymagazine. I have chosen the company Haymarket topublish my magazine as they are renown for their majorsuccess within the magazine industry already. In addition,Haymarket are the major competition of my magazinescompetitors, Future Publishing. Therefore, it will create aform of intensity between the two brands, meaning the twocompanies will be doing the best they can to out-do oneanother. Also, Haymarket are a very well known magazinepublisher. Their reputation is of very high standard withinthe industry and they will do the best they can to makesure my magazine is of great success.
  8. 8. Where my magazine will be sold…I have decided that it would be best for my magazine tostart off being sold in just local newsagents and cornershops for the first four months in order for me to monitorthe exact amount of units being sold each week. If mymagazine increases vastly in its popularity, I have decidedthat after those four months, I will look to also sell mymagazine in music stores such as HMV, as well as lookfor it to be sold in supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda.Having a wide range of accessibility for my magazine isvital as it means my audience can buy my magazine atalmost anywhere and do not have to necessarily go out oftheir way for it to be purchased, nor have to go to aspecialist store.
  9. 9. Marketing/AdvertisingIn terms of marketing and advertising my magazine, I willchoose a variety of large companies to help promote mymagazine. Firstly, I will choose an artist and feature themin the magazine provided they talk about the magazineoften over a small stint on their social networking sites.Secondly, I will advertise my magazine through vehiclessuch as buses in London as well as on the side of sometaxis. In addition to this, I will advertise my magazine byhanding out flyers in and around the city of London. Bydoing this, it will create a social awareness of mymagazine, allowing the company name to be fullyenforced to the public.
  10. 10. Unique Selling PointThe unique selling point of magazine is not one of greatsophistication nor extravagance, however, I have decidedas mentioned previously that my magazine will be everchanging with its concepts. I have decided on this idea asI feel that many music magazines of late are too one trackminded, meaning that they have a lack of real ideas ororiginality. Therefore, I do not want to follow the footstepsof my competitors, but to out-do them by making mymagazine always contain the newest and most exclusive:interviews, Q&A’s, quizzes, stories, reviews and news.
  11. 11. LocationsLooking at the possible locations for the photoshoot of mymagazine, I have decided to take a variety of locationsinto consideration. Here are some of those possible ideas:ForestAlleywayAbandoned industrial areaLit up room which has been pre-arranged
